POSITION: Scenic Carpenter, Event Production Services DEPARTMENT: Scenic and Fabrication REPORTS TO: Scenic and Fabrications Manager ESTIMATED PAY RANGE: Starting at $23/hour, depending on experience PURPOSE: The Scenic Carpenter is responsible for building scenic elements such as furniture pieces, set pieces, backdrops, props, and other visual elements for various events. The Scenic Carpenter should be well-versed in basic carpentry techniques, and able to use power tools to cut and assemble wood set pieces both independently and as part of a team. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Employ appropriate carpentry techniques to ensure precise measurements, accurate cuts, and seamless assembly of scenic elements. · Interpret design plans, blueprints, or sketches and translate them into tangible structures. · Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized workshop environment. Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained and report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel. · Interpret and execute design plans to construct and assemble scenic elements including platforms, set pieces, furniture, props, and other structures. Utilize various tools and materials, such as wood, metal, foam, and fabric, to create bespoke set pieces. · Stay on task and on schedule to meet the priorities of the day/week. · Troubleshoot and resolve construction challenges and technical issues that may arise during the fabrication process. · Conduct thorough quality checks to ensure the structural integrity, aesthetics, and functionality of scenic elements. Make necessary adjustments, repairs, or improvements to achieve the desired outcome. QUALIFICATIONS · Have a thorough and practiced understanding of construction, carpentry, and standard building techniques. · Knowledge of safety protocols and practices in carpentry and construction. · Minimum 3 years of experience as a Scenic Carpenter or similar role in the live event or entertainment industry, theater, or related fields. · Proficiency in using woodworking tools and machinery to cut, shape, and assemble materials with precision. · Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and make sound decisions under pressure. · Excellent attention to detail, ensuring all builds meet our high standards of quality, durability, and safety. · Ability to manage time efficiently and meet project deadlines. · Flexibility and adaptability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. · Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. · Flexibility to work extended hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. · Good physical condition and endurance (able to stand and walk for long periods of time, able to lift up to 50 lbs, and able to work in areas without temperature control). · Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, dynamic environment.
