Black Mountain Builders is seeking multiple positions for Carpenter I and Carpenter II tradespeople to join our team. We’re offering year-round full-time positions to experienced Carpenters who are motivated, thrive working in a collaborative team environment, are passionate about expanding their skills and knowledge, and would like to help mentor Apprentice Carpenters. We work primarily on residential projects within a 45-minute driving distance from Brattleboro. We are looking for individuals who: • Are motivated and like working in various phases of a building project. • Has a desire to expand knowledge of sustainable building practices and products. • Is a clear communicator and has good organization skills. • Approaches work with a collaborative mindset. • Is motivated to learn and grow. • Can perform various tasks with little or no supervision. • Has reliable transportation or is able to get rides to and from job sites. • Some of the responsibilities of a Carpenter I and Carpenter II include but are not limited to: Carpenter I: • Assist with the layout and preparation of projects. • Install wooden structures including decks, stairs, roofing frames, rafters, partitions, joists, and studs. • Install cabinets, shelving, built-in’s, drywall, and insulation. • Install hardware and fixtures including door handles, locks, hinges, closures, pulls, knobs, and bath accessories. • Familiarity with lumber species, grades and dimensions. • Continued learning of reading plans and assisting with material take-offs. • Dismantling and removing damaged wooden structures and fixtures. • Checking accuracy of work with level, plumb bobs, framing squares, and lasers. • Ensure that work areas are kept clean and organized. • Obtain materials from lumber yards as needed. • Follow safety procedures and protocols, as well as workplace policies. • Basic understanding of advanced building science systems and techniques. • Participate in workshops and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge. Carpenter II: • Understanding of shop equipment and procedures including planers, jointers, drill press, band saws, and knowledge of basic joinery techniques. • Understanding and operation of construction equipment including telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts, drywall lifts, and shop equipment. • Select and grade lumber based on size, strength, and quality to suit each job. • Understanding of high-quality finishes and applications including sanding, staining, priming, painting across different substrates, and materials including wood, MDF, steel, and concrete. • Understanding of construction documents and ability to read plans. • Ability to perform advanced layouts and elevations. • Independently manage and track time throughout the workday utilizing company cost codes. • Thorough understanding of safety procedures, and proper set up staging and ladders. • Advanced understanding of advanced building science systems and techniques. • Ability to efficiently sequence tasks throughout the day to maximize productivity and quality of work. • Effectively and respectfully communicate with all positions on the team. • Open, close, and maintain job sites to company standards. • Basic field maintenance of tools and equipment. Operate associated power and hand tools and equipment. This is a full-time year-round benefit eligible position, paid at $25.00 - $30.00/hr, based on experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Build and install door and window framing; install locks, doorknobs and other hardware • Repair and maintain doors, floors, windows, partitions, ceilings and building exteriors • Build, repair and refinish wood furniture and fixtures to include cabinets, tables, shelving, bulletin boards, etc. • Maintain carpentry tools in working order • Erect, maintain, and dismantle walls and structures • Respond to resort work order requests and emergencies in a timely, efficient, and professional manner • Maintain appropriate service and repair records • Research, purchase, and inventory equipment, tools, parts, wood, chemicals and supplies • May train and direct the work of other staff in the area • Assist and serves as back up to other Facilities employees • Support department standards, policies, and work practices for staff • Additional duties as assigned EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • Education: • High School Diploma, or equivalent required • Technical Diploma, associate degree or two years college course work preferred • Experience: 2 to 4 years of related experience QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS • Basic carpentry trade skills to include ability to read sketches, prints and diagrams; operate and maintain various hand and power tools • Knowledge of applicable Vermont Building Code, safety rules and practices is required • Ability to take direction • Communicate clearly both written and verbal • Ability to complete trainings as required TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: • Vehicle provided for travel on the mountain.
