Position: Maintenance Carpenter - Full-Time Compensation The estimated pay for this position is $26.1242 to $32.1294. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). Definition: Under direction, performs skilled rough and finish carpentry work to build and repair articles and structures. Essential Functions: • Lays out, cuts, fits and joins lumber to construct the wooden framework for a variety of structures. • Erects sheathing for walls and roofs; repairs and replaces materials used for walls, ceilings and roofs. • Inspects buildings to determine needed repairs and orders needed materials. • Hangs doors and installs window sashes; repairs and adjusts doors and door closers. • Installs door and cabinet hardware. • Installs, repairs, adheres and fits floor coverings such as carpet and vinyl; saws, fits and nails interior trim. • Installs cabinets, shelving and bookcases. • Cuts and repairs glass; repairs and replaces ceramic tile. • Operates woodworking equipment such as sanders, planers, routers, lathes, joiners and power saws in the construction of cabinets, shelves and other wooden articles or structures. • Reads blueprints and estimates needed material. Other Functions: • Retrieves parts and materials from off-site locations, when necessary. • Constructs forms; mixes, pours and finishes concrete. • Constructs, installs and repairs special laminates. • Installs and repairs asphalt parking areas. • Repairs chairs and other furniture. • Positions assigned to the Sheriff’s Office may direct work release, community service, inmate laborers and/or other special program personnel who are assisting in the performance of the above duties. • Performs other job related functions as required. Employment Standards: Four (4) years of experience performing carpentry work under a journey level carpenter OR an approved apprenticeship certificate. Possession of a valid Class “C” Driver’s license is required upon appointment. Candidates may be required to pass a thorough background investigation. Except or minor traffic violations, minor traffic violations, misdemeanor and felony convictions may be disqualifying. Knowledge of: Practices, methods, tools, equipment and materials used in the carpentry trade; qualities of various woods and other building materials and their adaptability and uses; applicable building and fire codes. Ability to: Exercise good judgment to safely operate a variety of hand tools and power machines; read, interpret and work from sketches and blueprints estimate labor and material requirements; read and use basic measuring devices; complete forms; understand and follow oral and written instructions; respond quickly to emergency situations.
