Position: Carpentry/ Construction Trades Instructor - Cowley College Carpentry/ Construction Trades Instructor - Cowley College - Arkansas City, KS 67005 Arkansas City Main Campus - Arkansas City, KS Position Type: Full Time Education Level: Associates Degree (required) Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Department Chair, the Carpentry/Construction Trades Instructor is responsible for the classes in the program, including course approval, scheduling, recruiting, laboratory training, safety, presenting lecture material, providing constructive feedback to students and faculty, coordinating logistical matters, developing, assessing, verifying and coordinating student progress. The Instructor is responsible for maintaining standards set by Cowley College, Technical Education Authority, and the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR). Position Duties: • Assists in administration and organization of the Carpentry/Construction Trades program. • Aids coordinating the courses of the Construction Trade program, including course approval, scheduling, laboratory training, presenting lecture material, provides constructive feedback to students, coordinating logistical matters, assess and verifies skill performance, and meets with students at internship sites. • Maintain standards set by CCCC, TEA, and KBOR. • Aids in providing leadership in the Carpentry/Construction Trade program to facilitate coursework. • Assists with the recruitment & placement for all Construction Trades students in the certificate and AAS degrees of Carpentry/Construction Trades program. • Assists with the evaluation and modification of existing course procedures as needed, and development of new course procedures to gain Board of Regents approval. • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable. • Must maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization. • Assists in coordinating two annual advisory committee meetings including but not limited to development of the committee, review of industry standards, review of academic compliance to required standards. • Assume other related duties as assigned by the Career & Technical Education Department Chair. • Comply with all College policies and procedures. Required Knowledge and Skills: • Knowledge of teaching methodologies and practice. • Valid Kansas driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle. • Ability to prepare accurate reports. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Ability to work independently in stressful situations. • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students, representatives of other organizations, and the public. • Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement. • Knowledge of Carpentry, Construction, and technical aspects used in the industry. Required Education and Experience: • Minimum of an Associate degree and three or more years of experience in or directly related to the Construction industry and/or teaching. • Bachelor's degree in Carpentry, Construction, or a related field from a regionally accredited educational institution PLUS three years industry or teaching experience is preferred. Supervisory Requirements: None. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive a motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time. Work performed in a classroom, shop floor area.
