Shop Welder

General Summary: • Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble parts or tanks, with assistance from Bay Supervisor or Master Craftsman. This position is classified as a safety sensitive position, see Limitations and Disclaimer for additional information. Essential Job Functions: • Studies engineering drawings and blueprints, locates and marks bending and cutting lines, and lays out and examines metal stock to ensure specifications are met. • Aligns and fits parts, moves parts into position, and secures parts for welding. • Verifies conformance of workpieces to specifications, and prepares completed work to be checked by supervisors. • Sets up and operates fabricating machines and welding equipment. • MIG, TIG, Flux, Core, stick, and tack-welds parts and tank seams. • Completes manufacturing documentation in a timely manner. • Weld up lower level parts, patch holes for grinders and tack parts together. • Will train on some basic grinding as needed. • Follows all safety guidelines as noted in Safety Manual. • Assists all supervisors and performs other duties as needed and directed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Needs to be able to pass 0808GT16-2 weld test as well as the 0808GM31-1 (short-arc) and 0808GM33-1 (pulse) processes. • Must be able to use a plasma cutter, cutting torch and cutting wheel. • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. • Knowledge of welding/grinding procedures. • Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving or holding arm and hand in one position. • Ability to read cut sheets, blueprints, and tape measures • Ability to keep hand and arm steady when moving or holding arm and hand in one position. • Ability to meet budgeted hours. Education and Experience: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working Conditions: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and toxic or caustic chemicals. • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Job Description Sign on bonus $7,500 Clean Harbors in Springfield, MO is looking for a Certified Welder to add to our Springfield, MO team. Our newly rebuilt manufacturing facility is well lit and well ventilated! The facility specializes in the manufacturing of stainless-steel tanks. This Welder position is primarily responsible for welding and fabricating and production of small parts. Daily tasks include MIG and TIG welding. This includes welding and fabricating sub frames, bumpers, fall protection on tanks, welding pipe and fabricating/welding mount bracket supports. Why work for Clean Harbors? • Health and Safety is our #1 priority, and we live it 3-6-5! • Pay starting at $21-$23 hourly Overtime paid after 40 hours at $31.50-$34.50 +annual production bonus opportunities • Comprehensive health benefits coverage after 30 days of full-time employment • Group 401K with company matching component; Employee Stock Purchase Plan • Opportunities for growth and development for all the stages of your career • Generous paid time off, company paid training and tuition reimbursement • Positive and safe work environments Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: • Ensure Health and safety is the number one priority while working independently and in cooperation with others including shop superintendents, safety personnel and certified welding inspectors • Utilize measuring tapes, bandsaws, grinders and various hand tools to accurately layout and fit up piping modules in a heated clean shop area • Layout, cut and fit piping from shop sketches and blueprints in carbon and stainless steel and other alloys • Perform GMAW and GTAW welding of joints, bolt up valves and other equipment on scaffold and/or aerial lifts using appropriate fall protection (from heights) • Wear appropriate safety equipment based on a complete analysis of the job site and tasks being performed, including a respirator if required • Immediately notify shop supervisor or management of any equipment deficiencies or repairs needed and tag out of service if indicated • Work independently and in cooperation with others including shop superintendents, safety personnel and certified welding inspectors • Maintain a safe and clean work area while keeping company issued tools and equipment clean and organized • Ability to safely set up, operate a hydraulic plate shear, and press brake (preferred) • Set up welding equipment for weld procedures • Other duties as assigned Qualifications What does it take to work for Clean Harbors? • High School, GED- required • Trade school or post-secondary welding training or apprenticeship • Welding test required • 1+ years of experience • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. • Certified Welder • MIG (prefer TIG, but willing to train) • Safety Focused • Punctuality and attendance required • Respirator fit test possible • Successful completion Background check, drug screen and physical- required • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time, including F1-OPT work authorization.
