Welder - Railroad Freight Car Repair

Job Description: We are currently seeking a Welder/Fabricator for our railroad car repair department. Previous railroad experience is preferred but we will train the right individual !! A qualified candidate would preferably have a background in welding and metal fabrication / assembly. Our employees work with standard metal working equipment such as welders, grinders, torches, and various hand tools normally inside a shop setting. This position involves occasional travel and possible rotations onto a night shift. Night shift rotation is mandatory for all employees but shall not exceed 30 days 330 pm - 230 am 4 nights per week. Night shift pays an additional $.92 per hour and has 3-day weekends every weekend. Applicants MUST be available to take turns based on seniority and work up to a 30-day rotation on night shift 3:30pm-2:30am (4-10 hr nights) Monday - Thursday. If assigned to a night shift, this adds $.92 of shift differential pay. Job Qualifications: • Must be able to pass an in-house weld test and subsequently pass a company paid AWS certification within 30 days. • Most work is inside, but occasionally must be able to work outdoors in wet and cold (below freezing) weather. • Must have previous experience using metal working equipment. • This is strenuous work requiring good corrected vision, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching and lifting.

License or Certification: Able to pass company required performance tests including 6G weld test in 2' and 8' steel pipe within 60 days of employment. Experience: Typically requires 5 years welding experience Equivalency: Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the above requirements.

Welder/Fabricator Job Description Department: MFG Location: Kansas City, MO SUMMARY: Successful applicant will conduct metal (primarily steel) fabrication and welding on a daily basis. Successful applicant will be responsible for various types of structural welding, including preparation, welding, and finishing operations. Applicant must be able to read, interpret, and understand detail design prints. Successful applicant must be good physical condition and able work in a steel fabrication shop environment on a daily basis. Successful applicant must be a team player, able to easily interact with others, have a solid work ethic. Successful applicant may be required to work at remote job sites on occasion in rock or asphalt quarries or other industrial job sites and therefore must be able to successfully interact with end customers, follow safety procedures and policies, and be willing possible long hours during the day to complete jobs in timely manner so as to get our end customers back operational. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned. • Works directly with plant manager, shop supervisor, customer, drafter, and peers to produce finished products • Proficient in modern welding techniques and equipment • Good working knowledge of wire and filler material applications for various steel alloys and aluminum. • Problem analysis and resolution • Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools. • Responds effectively to questions and inquiries concerning assembly and welding • Utilizes knowledge of various machines, welding practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete assembly and welding • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and specifications • Must be familiar with product assembly and application • Must have working knowledge welding shop operations • Position requires that successful applicant be a highly organized, self-motivated individual who can work independently but also performs well within teams or work groups • Must have strong oral communication skills • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and easily adapt to changing situations • Successful applicant will be safety conscious and have good housekeeping practices • Able to work with minimum supervision and capable of self-checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
