Job Description We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal with experience in shipyard environments to support ongoing ship repair and maintenance operations. This role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining sheet metal systems aboard naval and commercial vessels, including ventilation ducts and structural components. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Key Duties & Responsibilities • Fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal components such as ventilation systems, ducts, hoods, and furniture in ship compartments. • Perform inspections and certify enclosed or confined spaces as “Safe for Man” or “Safe for Hot Work.” • Monitor and report tank conditions, including cleanliness, obstructions, and atmospheric readings. • Collaborate with ship supervisors and safety personnel to resolve any safety or access issues before certification. • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and verbal instructions to complete tasks accurately. • Follow safety procedures and contribute to a safe work environment by identifying hazards and taking corrective action. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. Actively participates in continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, improve quality, reduce cycle time, and reduce costs. Required Education and Experience • High school education/equivalent preferred • Minimum of 4 years experience as a journeyman Sheet Metal. • Knowledge of shipbuilding processes and procedures preferred. • Must be able to read blueprints and work from layouts, sketches, and written instructions. • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and required to communicate effectively in English. • Must be able to pass a Sheet Metal written test. Unique/Additional Requirements • Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions. • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and climb ladders or scaffolding. • Available to work any shift, including weekends or overtime as needed. • Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.
