JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Sheet Metal Programmer will review customer blueprints, design/create CAD programs and optimize the Punch / laser manufacturing process by programming. Must study drawings and blueprints of components that need to be manufactured and determines which machines will be required, what they need to do, and the order in which the work needs to be done. Uses CAD/CAM software, such as Dr. A Blank, Dr. A Bend, Sheet Works, Salvagnini, SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD, to program various production machines to perform various tasks according to customer specifications. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Evaluates manufacturing processed flow of short and long run orders, including routing of job through production, outside processing, and in-process and final inspection. • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow and proper machine allocation. • Creates instructions for machinists. • Reviews 3D CAD design blueprints. • Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut. • Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program. • Communicates with operators who will use the programs. • Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests. • Determines sequence of operations in a program. • Chooses punching and laser tip tools that will be needed. • Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations. • Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency. • Monitors all programs to make sure they follow blueprint instructions safely and successfully complete the task. • Makes improvements to setup times for a task and contouring of complex shapes. • Simplifies tooling time for workers and increases productivity for production. • Evaluates all completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time and money for production. • Provides training for operators on automated systems. • Commitment to all safety policies and regulations at all times. • Individual is expected to continually contribute innovative ways of improving department processes in order to increase the quality and efficiency of their job. • Identifies and reports negative or positive risks associated with responsible processes, products, procedures, people, infrastructure, or environment. • Make decision for change to improve production efficiency. • Create Clarification/Deviation Request (CDR) if there are any conflicts on technical data package. QUALIFICATIONS: • Minimum of 5 years programming experience in the manufacture of sheet metal parts for the defense and aerospace industry. • Bachelor’s degree in computer programming or computer-related field. • Certification in Amada software is desirable. • Prior experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks. • High school diploma or GED. • Must work well under pressure to meet deadlines. • Continuing education to learn new techniques as they emerge. • Experience with programming. • Knowledge of electronics and machine tools. • Must maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials. • Complete an apprenticeship.
