Position: Plumber Department: Facilities and Custodial Supervisor: Facilities Manager Description: 12 months – Benefits Eligible Union Status: Non-Collective Bargaining SCOPE OF DUTIES Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, maintains all building equipment and related components at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, CT and Camp Isola Bella, in Salisbury CT. Responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance, inspection, testing, etc., on all plumbing systems and components of both locations. SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Mon – Fri, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, must be available for on-call rotations, after hour emergencies and snow removal. Occasional weekends for special events. PRIMARY DUTIES • Provide corrective and preventative maintenance on all plumbing, roof, drain and storm drain systems. • Provide corrective and preventative maintenance on fire sprinkler systems and equipment as well as domestic hot and cold water systems and equipment. • Oversee maintenance of campus sewage systems. • Maintain/ repair building heating, ventilation, air conditioning and kitchen equipment. • Repair sinks, toilets, showers, pipes, drains, traps, valves, faucets, etc. • Maintain an inventory of supplies for common repairs. • Monitor and maintain boiler systems i.e. pumps, circulators • Available for after-hours emergencies and assist with snow removal. • Assist with the general operations of facilities services as assigned. • May assist with other trades as needed and other duties as assigned. • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. • Effectively present information to fellow employees, students, supervisors and school administrators. • Thorough knowledge of the installation and repair of plumbing systems. • Ability to provide corrective and preventative maintenance of work orders in a timely and professional manner. • Knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trade, skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in the performance of plumbing work. • Knowledge of building and facilities maintenance including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, door hardware, Fire/Life safety protection equipment. • Ability to estimate time and material requirements. • Ability to work with tools and equipment safely. • Exposure to varying weather conditions and ability to work in tight spaces. • Ability to comprehend Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and maintain appropriate information on related materials. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS • Must possess High School Diploma, or equivalent, in addition to a valid state driver’s license. • State of CT journeyman license D2, P2 preferred but not mandatory. • Experience in other trades – HVAC preferred. • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. • American Sign Language proficiency strongly preferred or commitment to learn. SALARY AND BENEFITS: • Compensation range is based on experience and available upon request • Outstanding benefits package including Retirement 403B with generous school matching, group health insurance, and other fringe benefits. • $1000 sign on bonus after one year of service, not applicable for re-hires.
