Keeps detailed records and reports of project status and testing requirements. Communicates effectively with Federal, State, County, City, Waterworks Board, and staff. The Inspector is responsible for performing moderately complex inspections of Waterworks construction projects and consumer backflow devices. Work involves the inspection of materials, backflow devices, methods, and work for conformity to plans, specifications, and quality requirements. Additional responsibilities include performing surveying tasks and mathematical computations associated with engineering fieldwork. Duties require the application of knowledge of technical areas in safety, backflow, engineering, or associated field acquired through special training or experience. Specific assignments are received from a professional and, when other than routine, are accompanied by oral or written directions. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy upon completion. However, as experience is gained, greater independence is allowed in conducting recurring assignments. Tact, courtesy, and initiative are required in contact with Federal, State, County, City officials, Waterworks Board Members, contractors, outside personnel engaged in projects and the general public. Work is evaluated by observation, reports, and efficiency of performing assigned tasks.
