About the Role We are hiring for an experienced CNC Machinist with a strong background in horizontal boring mills and CNC machining. This is not an operator role. We're looking for a machinist who understands setups, tooling, feeds and speeds, tolerances, and how to work across multiple machines. You’ll be machining large, complex parts, many in the 500 to 2,000 lb range—often with tight tolerances and challenging dimensions. What You’ll Do • Set up and run CNC horizontal boring mills to machine large parts and castings • Operate independently with minimal supervision from setup to finish • Machine parts ranging from 500 to 2,000 lbs with tolerances as tight as +/- .002 • Select appropriate tools, calculate feeds and speeds, and program offsets as needed • Use prints, shop drawings, and verbal instructions to complete jobs accurately • Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, bore gauges, and calipers • Handle large parts safely using overhead cranes and rigging equipment • Collaborate with programmers, team leads, and other machinists when needed • Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe shop environment What You Bring • Minimum 5 years of hands-on machining experience, with proven skill on CNC horizontal boring mills • Experience with large steel and cast iron parts or weldments in an industrial environment • Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical blueprints and GD&T • Strong understanding of speeds, feeds, tool selection, and fixturing techniques • Familiarity with CNC and manual programming adjustments • Comfortable working independently on one-off parts with minimal repetition • Must be able to pass a machining and feeds and speeds test during the hiring process • High school diploma or GED required; vocational training or trade school is preferred What You Get • Competitive hourly pay, based on experience and skill level • Steady, full-time work with a three-day weekend every week • Medical, dental, and vision insurance • 401(k) with company match • Paid time off and paid holidays • Opportunities for growth and internal mobility Columbia Machine offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, short and long term disability, 401(k), incentive compensation, paid holidays, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement. How You'll Perform the Role • Complete all assigned duties in compliance with company policies and procedures. • Read, understand, and correctly complete all daily paperwork. • Read and understand job order(s); set up work area using materials as specified in the job order(s); replenish materials as needed. • Set up machines as needed and/or change activities as directed. • Proofread labels to ensure accuracy of information. Ensure label(s) adequately contain all necessary data. • Check the quality of the product – print alignment, roll quality, correct paper, and paper basis weight. • Attention to detail, cooperative attitude, solid work ethics, and teamwork are essential. • Operate a hand-truck, electric pallet jack, and hoist as needed within the scope of job. • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
