CNC Machinist Operator

SUMMARY: Sets up and operates various CNC machines to perform operations on lathes, mills, drills, grinders, turning, shapers, broach and hobs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Reads process sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements. - Meet or exceed pieces per hour rate as indicated on working documents. - Verifies accuracy of move tickets, drawings, job breakdown sheets and quality documents. Assure documents have same customer and part revisions and match the facilities they are being run in. - Load and unload work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate, manually or using hoist. - Installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic-tool-change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet. - Depresses buttons, toggles, and starts machining operation. - Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares with data on process sheet to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates, and speeds of machining cuts. - Turns dials and switches to correct machine performance, applying practical knowledge of general machine operation. - Inspects first-run piece and spot-checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications, using specified measuring instruments. Records necessary SPC Data. - Studies future job packet and organizes materials for next run to shorten changeover time. - May set tools before positioning them in machine, using precision gauges and instruments. - May set up and/or operate another machines or tools during the machining cycles. - Complete all necessary labor and production reporting. - Follow all safety requirements and guidelines. - Perform preventive maintenance on machine and maintain cleanliness of work area. - Completes "Daily Operator Checklist" at the beginning of each shift. - Additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Intermediate reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent, or a 2 year degree program. Computer literate with the ability to learn, and work statistical and manufacturing software applications. Duties require verbal and written communication skills. RESPONSIBILITES 1. Sets up and operates horizontal multi axis lathes to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing and/or threading of parts. 2. Review blueprints, job breakdown sheets and QC documents of part to determine the machine settings, specifications, fixtures, and tools necessary to produce the part. 3. Selects and installs tooling or preset tooling in tool posts, turret, arbors or indexing heads and tool magazine in sequence as defined on job breakdown sheets. 4. Mounts work piece between centers, on arbor, on a chuck or to a faceplate manually or using a hoist. 5. Observes numerical displays on control panel and compares to process sheets to verify dimensional adjustments, feed rates and speeds of machining cuts. 6. Adjusts and directs flow of coolant against tooling and work piece. 1. Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces to conformance to specifications, using inspection equipment's as specified on QC documents. 2.
