Job Description The Machinist 3 operates numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate aerospace parts per engineering specifications without supervision. The Machinist 3 receives on-the-job training to set up jobs with supervision. Ensure alignment with shop documentation, processes, and best practices throughout all machining operations. • Consistently meeting allocated set-up times. • Validate programs before a production run and perform/suggest edits to speeds and feeds and canned cycles for optimal efficiency and part accuracy with lead/programming approval. • Perform initial quality inspections on materials and finished parts, using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances. Also, capable of maintaining a consistent high-quality level of deburr and visual inspection. • Capable of performing basic shop math for calculating dimensions. • Have keen attention to detail to ensure finished parts meet precise specifications and quality standards. • Use a range of precision measurement devices, such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, smart scope, CMM, Trimos and they can inspect parts and verify that they meet the required dimensional tolerances. • Read and interpret work order steps, blueprints, and specifications to understand the requirements for each job. • Load raw materials and finished parts into machines (up to 50lbs). • Maintain logs of production and quality data as required. Ex: run sheets and inspection routines. • Keep the work area, tools, and equipment clean and organized. • Identifying and escalating any operational issues to lead or supervisor. • Diagnose and resolve complex machining issues during set-ups and production runs without outside assistance. This requires a deep understanding of machine principles, tooling, and materials. • Maintains an efficiency level of 90% or higher while running production. • Perform sophisticated inspections, including first-article inspections on run 1 jobs, using advanced measurement tools and applying a strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). • Take ownership of the first part runs and ensure they meet all design specifications. • Assist in the safe recovery of machinery after a malfunction or error. • Provide training and guidance to less experienced machinists (Level I and II) when lead is busy. • Effectively communicate and collaborate with leads or manager/supervisor and other production personnel to improve processes level of 85% or higher while running production.
