GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts. Ensure products meet precise specifications. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce parts. • Review blueprints and / or specifications for a job. • Shape steel, aluminum, plastic, and other materials. • Determine speeds and feeds of materials being cut. • Determine how much material to remove. • Select proper tools for the job. • Position workpiece on the drill press, lathe, or milling machine. • Ensure work piece is properly lubricated and/or cooled. • Replace dull cutting tools. • Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications. • Determine cutting path, monitor the accuracy of cuts. • Use manual and computer-controlled machinery. • Modify programs in order to meet necessary tolerances. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Proficient in Mathematics and Blueprint Reading • Ability to take measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc. • Ability to successfully operate applicable machinery • Written and verbal communication EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent, 1-2 years of experience in a machinist position preferred. We are seeking a dedicated individual to set up and operate multipurpose CNC machines for various machining operations, including milling, drilling, reaming, and cutting metal pieces to specified precision. QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma/GED with training as a CNC Machine Operator or experience in a machine shop environment. • Ability to read and write codes for CNC machine programming. • Proficiency in reading complicated drawings, layouts, method sheets, and specifications. • Knowledge of shop mathematics and the use of formulas, with a thorough understanding of basic machine operations, methods, and setups. • Familiarity with the cutting quality of various metals and the grinding and setting of tools according to metal characteristics.
