Responsible for the machining and fabrication of precision components used to support engineers, designers, and production employees to implement improvements in Gibson Acoustic manufacturing process. This position requires agile, critical thinking and a broad skillset in machining to tackle complex technical problems. This is not a production machining position. The person in this position may work individually or as a team member as job conditions demand. Essential Functions • Study blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate components. • Select or develop fixturing, appropriate tools and machines in preparation for machining. • Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of different machine tools including but not limited to CNC mills, lathes, and surface grinders to perform precision machining operations on a variety of materials. • Work to specifications and design criteria from verbal instructions, CAD models, drawings, and blueprints. • Use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments to maintain accurate dimensional tolerances based on specifications and design criteria. • Assist in the development and assembly of new machines and processes. • Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs. • Repair of machinery and components. • Perform basic machine preventative maintenance functions according to schedule. • Assemble, disassemble, and relocate manufacturing equipment as directed. • Operate all machinery and tools in safe manner in accordance with company policies. • Other duties as assigned. The major responsibilities of the machinist include, but are not limited to: • Read drawings supplied by customers, including dimensions, tolerances and specifications • Set up milling, grinding and other work centers to machine parts to specification. • Test setup and refine as necessary to ensure equipment is machining parts correctly • Operate CNC equipment to produce parts • Monitor quality of parts to ensure final dimensions are within tolerances and to avoid flaws in products • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment. Record maintenance activities in CMMS • Enter production data in MES including time, good/bad parts produced • Refine setup to improve safety, quality and on time delivery • Estimate equipment capacity for production of given part • Suggest process changes to improve efficiency or yield. • Maintain clean, safe and efficiently organized work area • Cross-train others to operate equipment including safe operation, inspection and data collection requirements • Be familiar with, and competent at, the operation of standard (non-CNC) machines and equipment. • At request of the Manufacturing Engineer or Team Lead, assist in evaluation of unusual part drawing.
