Job Title: Machinist Position Summary: This position is responsible for manufacturing parts for aircraft, building special tools, fixtures, and/or repair aircraft components using engine lathe, knee mill, NC mill, CNC lathe, and/or other machine shop tools. Essential Responsibilities: • Read and interpret blueprints of aircraft equipment. • Perform complex setups with vises, angle plates, rotary plate, and sine plate. • Design and build custom fixture(s) for specific jobs. • Ensure all equipment used is in good working condition and calibration is up to date. • Clean, lube, and service machine tools I/A/W manufacture’s recommendations. • Assure safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Additional Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Working knowledge of proper use of machine tools i.e., engine lathe, knee mill. • Working knowledge of proper use and care of measuring instruments i.e., calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators. CMM or Faro Arm knowledge is a plus. • Ability to program EZ Trak mill, and/or Haas TL Lathe. • Ability to work in close tolerance situations with little to no error. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies: • Ability to think analytically and be a problem solver. • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and in speaking with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner. • Ability to understand and apply concepts and instructions in the machinery's handbook. • Knowledge of basic math skills/calculations. • Knowledge of proper use of machine tools, measuring instruments, etc. • Skill to use various tools and cutter grinder, brazed carbide tool grinder etc. • Skill in interpreting and applying written technical guidelines and manuals. • Skill in the use of computers to research technical data. • Knowledge of reading and interpreting aircraft or mechanical blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and manuals. • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies. • Understandand practice safety procedures to prevent damage to equipment or injury to personnel. • Skill in interpreting and applying written technical guidelines. Any combination equivalent to the following would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities needed to qualify. • High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate. • Trade school diploma/certificate or equivalent training • Experience with manufacturing software (i.e., Mastercam or Solidworks) • Previous experience in the manufacturing/machining sector Desired Qualifications: • 5+ years of relevant manufacturing/machining experience Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: • Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort. Frequently lifting parts and equipment that weigh up to 25lbs. • Occasionally lift and carry items that weigh approximately 50lbs. Heavier weights may be lifted with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers. • Standing for long periods of time. • Use of cleaning chemicals, solvents, grease, and machine tool cutting fluids are common in the workplace. Role Overview: CNC machine operators perform a variety of tasks in their work with one or more multiple-spindle, automatic lathe-type screw machines. These machines are used to produce custom parts from stock metal or other materials. CNC machine operators ensure the machine is properly set up to perform the various operations needed to produce these parts. Operators read blueprints and determine exactly what screw machine settings are needed to create an actual working part from the plans. The operator chooses cutting speeds, the depth of cuts, how fast the machine should run and which cutting tools should be used for each operation. Operators base their decisions on experience, knowledge about the materials being used and basic mathematical principles. Operate and Maintain equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Knowledge of G-code programming. • Operates and/or set up and maintain multiple assigned complex machines. • Read and interpret drawings/blueprints. • Run parts per engineering drawings. • Positions and secures tools in tool holders, verifying positions with gauges and other measuring instruments. • Starts machine, observes operation, and inspects first-run and sample workpiece to ensure machine conforms to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as plug and ring gauges, calipers, and micrometers. • Replaces worn tools. • Machine nonmetallic and metallic materials. • May set up machines for other workers. • Loads specified stock into feeding mechanism. • Maintain machinery and work centers through approved preventive maintenance programs. • In process inspection reports required • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts or production processes. • Follow all written and verbal instructions/guidelines. • Work and communicate with the team to meet quotas and goals. • Record data (count, report accurately) • Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude. • Observe safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management. • Maintain and clean work area and equipment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training and Experience: High school diploma or GED and one or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
