As a Manual Machinist for IPS, you will identify problems and make necessary adjustments as they relate to industrial AC/DC electric motors and generators. You will use a variety of manual machine tools and balancing equipment for rotating machinery, while following service center safety procedures. You will need to have excellent attention to detail and an ability to work from drawings, sketches and blueprints. Please view the following day-to-day responsibilities: Diagnose incoming units, disassemble, repair, assemble, and prepare items for shipment • Operate conventional manual machining tools to include engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, drilling machines, and related equipment. • Safely use overhead, gantry cranes, and lift trucks, and associated lift rigging. • Perform mechanical measurements using portable mechanical instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, and portable vibration measurement equipment. • Machine and fabricate parts using engine lathes, grinders and drill presses. • Draw accurate prints for parts needing to be fabricated. Qualifications and Competencies: • At least 2 years related experience, 6 preferred using manual machining equipment, or equivalent education and experience preferred. • Ability to read micrometer measuring equipment. • Motor shop, machine shop, tool & die stamping, or oil field experience preferred. • Ability to operate manual lathes of various size and dimensions. • Ability to operate electro-plating equipment. • Ability to work with tolerances of +/- .001. • Ability to perform basic math functions. • Ability to understand, perform and retain various job related training, operational, and safety procedures. • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required. Machinist/Mechanic-Billings

About the position The Machinist/Mechanic position at the Montana Department of Transportation in Billings involves performing repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel machinery and equipment. Machine Shop Team Lead

Job Responsibilities: Manage workflow and maximize efficiency. Maintain safe, secure, and healthy environment by adhering to company safety standards. Monitor performance and efficiency of employees' work efforts. Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) lathes and milling machines. Applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. Able to read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals and specifications. Measure sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors; for example, speed, feed and depth of cuts, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. Starts and observes machine operation to detect problems or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or G-code programs as required. Measure tool and work offsets and adjust as necessary to machine settings or programmed control data. Verifies dimensions and using measuring instruments for example: micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks. Qualifications : • Minimum 5 years of experience in a CNC Machine Shop setting preferred. • Must be able to set up and operate CNC mills and lathes. Must be able to troubleshoot production set ups and problems, including editing G-code programs. • Ability to use precision measuring tools to take accurate measurements. • Possess the knowledge and skill to improve production efficiency in department. • Must have good communication skills to work with and help machinists with all levels of experience, from apprentices to experienced machinists. • Be able to develop a collaborative, team environment with engineers, machine technicians, and other members of the organization at all levels. • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and machine manuals. • Good math skills with analytical abilities. • Familiar with MasterCam software. • CNC programming experience is a plus. • High School Diploma or equivalent; and completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship will be an asset. • Manual machining experience is a plus. • Must have at least 2 years minimum managerial or supervisory experience to be considered. Wage/Salary: DOE~Paid at hourly rate, non-exempt, and this position is eligible for overtime; with full benefit package; benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, health benefits coverage takes effect the first of the month following your first day of employment, with HSA (Health Saving Account) with employer contribution, 401k with employer match, paid holidays, paid sick and vacation time, bereavement leave, and FSA, flexible spending accounts available, no cost $20,000 life insurance policy for all employees with the option to purchase additional voluntary optional life insurance for yourself and dependents.
