HVAC Mechanic

Req Id: 37271 Job Title: HVAC Mechanic City: Hammond Job Description: Overview of HVAC Mechanic The Central Heating and Cooling Department at Purdue University Northwest is seeking a HVAC Mechanic to join our team. The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and operation of the campus HVAC and associated control systems. This position may travel to our Westville Campus. Education of HVAC Mechanic • High school diploma/GED • Journeyman certification preferred Experience of HVAC Mechanic • Three years of work experience as an instrument technician, HVAC Mechanic or other related fields • Experience is commercial is preferred Core Competencies of HVAC Mechanic • Must have the ability to perform tasks using the Internet and data base query tools • Valid motor vehicle operator's license • Must have the ability to understand basic heating, ventilation and air conditioning principles and control systems • Must possess good written and verbal skills in communicating with all members of the campus community • Trade specific journeyman certification required or equivalent experience may be substituted • The position requires the ability to organize, prioritize and perform under pressure in both a public contact and internal administrative capacity • Know and demonstrate techniques of using maintenance tools, repairing machinery and providing preventive building maintenance, when applicable • Ability to work from heights • Ability to troubleshoot or diagnose a problem and determine the best course of action • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and cooperation to resolve service issues, not just trade specific • Respond to after hour campus emergency situations • Must be able to provide feedback to improve performance of the entire crew and campus community, in general • Knowledgeable of Safety Rules and Regulations is a must • Demonstrate an ability to work well with people in a "team concept" atmosphere • Experienced in Microsoft Word and Excel in a Windows environment is desired • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally Additional Information Professional references will be verified prior to any offer of employment. The Lead is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Campus HVAC and associated systems. Procure materials required to complete projects and maintain required stock to ensure adequate stock of critical items. Responds to operational emergencies as required on campus during assigned shifts. Coordinates repairs of campus systems with university community. Has technical expertise in the HVAC field. Pay: • $28.00 - $30.00 Schedule: • Monday - Friday 6:00 am to 2:30pm • Subject to 24-hour callback for emergencies and needed coverage Duties and Responsibilities of Lead HVAC Mechanic • Temperature Control - Repairs, Inspects, Maintains, and Installs HVAC controls and related equipment. Maintains heating and cooling systems, assists outside contractors as required. Uses the Schneider Electric BAS to trouble shoot and observe operational effectiveness. • Supervision - Provides training for new employees as required, participates in the performance assessment process for employees they supervise, assigns work from the work order management system. Ensures all work orders are closed when work is completed. Prioritizes the work than is received on work requests • General Maintenance - Inspects buildings to perform assessment, performs basic functions for building maintenance, i.e., changing ballasts, repairing flush valves, disconnecting electric motors with regard to experience and safety.
