The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves. JOB DUTIES: This working position is responsible for the installation and repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration components and associated systems, food service equipment necessary to operate a major institution. This position will provide on the job training to those inmates he/she supervises in HVAC and associated systems. • Responsible for the installation and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems, as well as food service equipment, and provides on-the-job training to supervised inmates. • Maintains records on refrigerant use and recovery in compliance with DEP regulations and performs technical preventive maintenance on various HVAC systems. • Installs new electronic, pneumatic, and digital control systems, and diagnoses problems with HVAC and closed loop systems. • Performs tasks related to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building preventive maintenance, and prepares necessary reports as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent. • Maintains custody and control of supervised inmates, prepares progress reports for their rehabilitation, and participates in required departmental staff training. As a Sherman Mechanical Technician you will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install HVAC and related equipment per the ServiceAgreement. In this role you will work, both independently and with a team, to complete work orders for routine,moderately complex and complex electrical services, maintenance, repair, and installation of various HVAC and Refrigeration systems and equipment. Essential Functions:  Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable representative of SMC in all interactions with building guests, management, and ownership.  Maintain and repair HVAC equipment and systems of all types, for both commercial and industrial customers.  Diagnose and repair of electronic, mechanical and electrical components of these systems.  Work with dispatch to ensure schedule is maintained and delays are properly communicated to customer.  Responsible to respond immediately to any and all service emergency needs of our customers.  Work rotating shift as required, days, nights and weekends. Overtime is required as necessary.  Maintain good working order of company vehicle including refuelling as necessary, reporting any mechanical issues.  Vehicles should be washed on a regular basis.  Maintain proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the vehicle.  Document all equipment installations: make, model, serial number, necessary test measurements, and pictures as necessary.  Diagnose diverse service issues, obtain any replacement parts, and calibrate system to manufacturer’s recommendations.  Communicate to dispatch, parts procurement, supervisors and managers, as needed, to keep company and customers informed about work progressions.  Submit detailed, complete and timely reporting.  Participate in company provided training opportunities on latest industry technologies.  Identify and report to supervisor/manager potential opportunities for additional business.  Ensure the performance of preventive maintenance on all building equipment is completed within the allotted schedule.  Ensure efficient operation of all building systems.  Coordinate maintenance with outside vendors and oversee vendor maintenance.  Ensure strict adherence to critical facility work rule and safety procedures.  Be familiar with all applicable Federal, State, and local rules, codes, and regulations.  Observe all company procedures and safety rules Qualifications – Education & Experience:  High School Diploma or GED is required.  Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a technician in a service capacity, preferably in the HVAC / Electrical / Mechanical / Plumbing service industry.  Mechanical aptitude to ask questions and anticipate the next step in the process is critical.  Professional communication skills over the phone and email with customers and internal team members.  Working knowledge of local geography, ability to read maps.  Ability to multi-task and be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.  Ability to use discretion and judgment to make timely decisions.  Strong computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.  Available as necessary for after-hours service calls.  Valid State Issued Driver’s License.  EPA Certification.  Any other technical HVAC and/or Refrigeration certifications a plus.
