Utility Technician (HVAC)

About the position Conagra Brands is seeking a Utility (HVAC) Technician for its Fort Madison, Iowa manufacturing plant. This full-time position offers a starting wage of $29.12 per hour, with a targeted standard wage of $30.95 per hour, and additional shift differentials of $0.45 for 2nd shift and $1.00 for 3rd shift. The Utility Technician will be responsible for the daily troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of the plant's utility equipment and devices. This role requires participation in the facilities and maintenance work systems, emphasizing teamwork and leadership. The technician will report directly to the Maintenance Manager and will work a rotating swing shift. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of electrical theory as it applies to heating and air conditioning systems. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installing, and repairing plant refrigeration equipment, as well as understanding the components and principles of the refrigeration cycle. The technician will also be expected to operate and maintain various heating and cooling systems, including hydronic systems and boilers, while ensuring compliance with safety parameters and operational codes. In addition to technical skills, the role requires effective communication skills for training and collaboration within the team. The technician will be involved in planning and scheduling work, leading training sessions, and implementing continuous improvements on equipment. Responsibilities • Manage daily troubleshooting and preventative care of the plant's utility equipment and devices. , • Participate in facilities and maintenance work systems through teamwork and leadership. , • Demonstrate understanding of electrical theory as it applies to heating and air conditioning. , • Troubleshoot, install, and repair plant refrigeration equipment. , • Understand components, principles, and operation of the refrigeration cycle. , • Use air properties and load calculations for troubleshooting air conditioning systems. , • Operate, troubleshoot, and repair plant heating equipment. , • Troubleshoot combustion and electrical problems in fossil fuel equipment. , • Understand theories and principles of heat pumps and condensing furnaces. , • Explain capacity control, methods of unloading, and principles of electronic air cleaning. , • Understand operation and components of domestic refrigerators, freezers, and ice makers. , • Troubleshoot and repair domestic refrigeration equipment. , • Operate the sludge plant in various areas including intake primary treatment and aeration. , • Perform water testing in areas such as free chlorine, conductivity, and PH. , • Understand flow of drain distribution in various wastewater systems. , • Train and qualify in areas such as confined space entry and emergency responder training. , • Perform general maintenance of wastewater equipment including pumps and control systems. , • Understand biology of activated sludge and its requirements. , • Demonstrate ability to operate hydronic systems and hot water systems. , • Understand theory and principles of fire tube and water tube boilers. , • Operate, troubleshoot, and repair the plant's boilers. , • Understand code stamps, symbols, and jurisdictional summaries related to boiler operations. , • Perform tests and procedures related to water treatment and boiler maintenance. , • Operate and test groundwater systems and perform water testing. , • Understand chemistry of water treatment and cold-water distribution systems. , • Work in a team environment and develop training materials. , • Schedule and plan work through the planning team and complete project work. , • Provide technical leadership within their skill area and implement continuous improvements. Title: AFCAP V Middle East BOS: Contingent - Alternate Site Manager/HVAC Tech Belong, Connect, Grow, with KBR! Program Summary KBR’S AFCAP V group provides ongoing support and operations services to the United States Air Force. Job Summary The AFCAP V Middle East BOS Alternate Site Manager/HVAC Technician is designated by the Contractor to serve in an extended absence of the Site Manager. The ASM has full authority to act for the Contractor relating to daily contract operation in the absence of the SM. . Roles and Responsibilities The ASM is responsible for meeting Contractor’s work requirements, including scheduling of personnel, work supervision, and quality control. The ASM shall work closely with the government and local representatives including scheduling required meetings or conferences and be available within four (4) hours to meet on the installation with Government personnel (designated by the ACO) to discuss focus areas. Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and performs emergency/preventive maintenance. Project general requirements include but are not limited to; maintenance and repair of freezer and refrigeration units, food service equipment, appliances, fitness equipment, HVAC equipment, testing and balancing, general facility maintenance. Determines replacement parts as needed. Inspect, clean, and maintain commercial kitchen hood and duct exhaust systems. Install, repair, replace, modify, test, and maintain, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, to maintain proper operational capability IAW UFC 3-601-02, NFPA, and the original equipment manufacturer's instructions. Operate, repair, maintain, test, inspect, and document portable/mobile fire extinguishers IAW NFPA 10. Works from prints and schematics as required. Maintain accurate records and reports as required. Performs other duties as assigned. MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED: May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions that require wear of hard hats, gloves, steel toed boots, hearing protection, safety glasses and other personal protection equipment (PPE); may be required to push, pull, and lift heavy equipment. Use of Land Mobile Radios, cell phones, laptops, and other devices to maintain contact and accountability of work activities. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work will be indoors and outdoors. Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals may occur. Overtime and shift work may be required depending on contractual needs as well as occasional to frequent travel. Employees must comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations and published Company work rules as well as written instructions. Task specific work environment training may be provided. Must be prepared to function in a wartime or contingency environment to support U.S. interests. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Physical requirements include lifting up to 35lb, team lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, extended sitting, or standing, stooping, stretching, and bending. Work may require using and wearing personal protective equipment such as hearing and eye protection, hard hat and steel-toed boots as well as Individual Protective Equipment (IPE). Day-to-day physical requirements may involve standard office activities including sitting/standing for extended periods of time, attending meetings, use of keyboard and mouse repetitively, lifting and carrying less than 20 lbs. frequently, etc. Work requires moderate physical exertion including walking to operating areas and walking upstairs. Basic Qualifications Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years’ work experience related to site management and practical HVAC field operations. Shall have a current North America Technician Excellence (NATE) certification, EPA 608 certification and preventative maintenance certification. Maintenance journeyman or master technician, HAZMAT certified in accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification standards described in 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 82. Must be a U.S. Citizen with a current U. S. Driver's License. Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 13 months of remaining validity AND 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining. Must have and maintain a valid U. S. SECRET Security Clearance Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently. Skills: Able and willing to work periods of long hours to meet mission requirements. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in contingency environments as well as knowledge & experience working with government contracts.
