Position Summary The HVAC Service and Installation Technician performs skilled technical work in the service, repair, maintenance, and installation of residential and commercial HVAC systems. This role requires expertise in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems with emphasis on customer service excellence and technical proficiency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Service and Repair • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting of HVAC/R systems including heat pumps, gas furnaces, electric heating systems, and split/package units • Execute emergency service calls with systematic approach to problem identification and resolution • Conduct preventive maintenance on all types of HVAC equipment per manufacturer specifications • Test and adjust system controls, thermostats, and building automation systems • Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging procedures in compliance with EPA regulations Installation and Technical Work • Install complete HVAC systems including equipment placement, ductwork, electrical connections, and refrigerant piping • Fabricate and install sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and transitions • Run refrigerant lines with proper insulation, supports, and leak testing • Install and wire low-voltage controls, thermostats, and safety devices • Perform combustion analysis and system commissioning on gas-fired equipment Documentation and Customer Relations • Complete detailed service reports, work orders, and equipment documentation • Provide accurate cost estimates and time requirements for repairs and installations • Maintain professional customer interactions and explain system operations to clients • Process warranty claims and maintain service history records • Coordinate with dispatch and management on job status and material requirements Safety and Compliance • Follow all OSHA safety protocols and company safety procedures • Maintain EPA 608 certification and handle refrigerants according to federal regulations • Use proper PPE and maintain safe work practices in all environments • Conduct lock-out/tag-out procedures on electrical systems Additional Responsibilities • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and test equipment in proper working condition • Participate in ongoing technical training and certification programs • Assist with inventory management and material procurement • Mentor junior technicians and apprentices as assigned • Support on-call rotation for emergency service requests Other Functions: • Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position. • Enforces Company policies and safety procedures. • Regularly updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in professional organizations. • Ensures that Company tools, equipment, and vehicles are maintained in proper working condition. Mental and Physical Demands: • Field-based position requiring work in residential homes, commercial buildings, rooftops, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and attics. Exposure to varying weather conditions and temperature extremes. • The principle duties of this position are performed in a variety of environments, including customer homes, the outdoors, and field environments at development and work sites on uneven and rough terrain. • Required to work in outside weather conditions, including heat, cold, and temperature swings, for extended periods of time. Also in confined spaces and on ladders. • Experiences frequent interruptions; required to meet inflexible deadlines; requires concentration and attention to detail; requires a high level of organizational and prioritization skills. • Standing up to 8 hours per day; Walking up to 8 hours per day on uneven, difficult terrain. • Regular heavy manual labor to include lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds. • Regular and repetitive grasping, gripping, reaching, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and working overhead. • Frequent use of ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts • Manual dexterity for using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment • Ability to work in cramped spaces and overhead positions Required Qualifications • Minimum 3-5 years hands-on experience in HVAC service and installation or certification from an accredited HVAC School • Proficiency with HVAC tools including manifold gauges, multimeters, combustion analyzers, and leak detectors • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycle, psychometrics, and electrical theory • Experience with residential and light commercial systems • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals • Advanced troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems • Sheet metal fabrication and ductwork installation • Brazing, soldering, and basic welding capabilities • Understanding of building codes and installation standards • Familiarity with digital controls and smart home integration Core Competencies/Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent required • HVAC technical school training or apprenticeship completion preferred • EPA 608 Universal certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days) • Valid driver's license with clean driving record • Excellent communication and customer service abilities • Strong organizational and time management skills • Self-motivated with ability to work independently • Professional appearance and demeanor • Reliable attendance and punctuality • Commitment to the Company’s mission. • Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out assignments. • Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively.
