Electrical Engineer

Position Summary: Nichols Portland Pump Division in South Portland, Maine is looking for an Electrical Engineer to support electric pump commercialization by providing engineering services around brushless DC motors and motor controllers. Essential Functions: • Participate with cross functional teams, suppliers, and customers throughout the phased design process • Review and compare customer technical regulations with industry standards (ISO, SAE) • Create motor controller specifications based on customer application requirements • Prepare test plans for internal R&D and customer driven verification and validation testing • Test embedded software; from basic motor control to J1939 CAN communications • Design and test brushless DC motors; from FEA to Back EMF and dynamometer measurements • Continuously improve lab testing capabilities with new technology and interfaces • Build, rework, and teardown electric pump prototypes • Perform and provide guidance for environmental, electrical, and electromagnetic compatibility testing • Prepare and present technical engineering reports • Collect and analyze information to assist with competitive benchmarking • Inspect and troubleshoot development samples and field returns • Review and evaluate electrical schematics, circuits, and component datasheets • Provide general electrical assistance throughout the lab Qualifications: Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) • 0-3 years of related experience OR • Associate degree in Electromechanical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technologies, or equivalent • 2+ years of related experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Excellent with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint • General knowledge of IT, computer hardware, and the Windows operating systems • Willingness to learn engineering tools (Autodesk, Spice, MotorSolve, LabVIEW, CANalyzer, etc.) • Desire to work in a hands-on engineering role with pumps, motors, and motor controllers • Experience with creating goals, establishing priorities, and working independently • Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule driven, team-oriented environment. Job Related Demands (i.e. physical, travel): • Travel domestically and internationally for meetings, training, and testing (2-3 times per year)

Journeyman Electrician

About the position Responsibilities • Work on commercial electric projects, specializing in new build construction. • Install and maintain electrical conduits and wiring. • Perform conduit bending and other necessary tasks for electrical installations. • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues based on blueprints and technical drawings. • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with relevant codes and safety standards. Requirements • Active Journeyman Electrician's license in the state of Maine. • 1 to 2 years of experience in a commercial construction environment. • Proficiency in working with electrical conduits and basic wiring. • Experience with conduit bending and the use of hand tools. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
