Description: CLASSIFICATION TITLE: 3RD CLASS LINEMAN PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION: The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled work to assist senior-level linemen in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting underground and overhead power lines, equipment, and electrical components. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Assists in the installation of new overhead primary and secondary power lines; assists in installing underground primary and secondary lines. • Controls traffic at work sites; sets cones and signs; flags traffic. • Prepares transformers for installation by wiring high side and grounding; prepares switches to be installed by mounting brackets; transports equipment to and from the site; performs a variety of duties in preparing equipment for installation. • Prepares job briefing report; prepares list of materials needed for job. • Removes and installs service meters. • Climbs and sets poles, anchors poles. • Cuts and clears trees for power lines. • Understands and adheres to safety procedures; conducts aerial safety checks on bucket trucks; conducts safety tests on personal safety equipment. • Performs a variety of duties associated with the installation and maintenance of power lines. • Installs ground rods, guy wires, pole anchors, pad mount transformer, and temporary service for new construction. • Responds to emergency calls. • Prepares equipment taken down to be put back in stock or trash; conducts a check on the inventory of trucks. • Maintains the cleanliness of trucks, tools, and the job site. • Repairs minor problems with equipment, ruts made in yards by trucks, and traffic signal lights. • Records information on transformer, cap banks, and oil switches for tracking of location; records changes made during the day and forwards to the meter technician. • Assists in troubleshooting problems. • Answers the telephone and takes messages. • Operates a bucket truck, underground van, pole truck, dump truck, ladders, hoists, hand tools, power tools, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: • Stocks warehouse shelves and unloads delivery trucks. • Cleans and maintains the truck and equipment. • Performs other related duties as required. Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED; one year of experience in repair and maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). Must possess and maintain CPR/First Aid certifications.
