Electrical Systems Engineer

Operations and Maintenance Technician About Box Power: BoxPower is on a mission to provide clean, reliable, affordable energy anywhere. About the role: The Operations and Maintenance Technician Role This role plays a crucial part in our rapidly growing company. The OMT will focus on operations, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of our renewable microgrid systems. We are seeking an energetic, organized, flexible candidate who is eager to learn and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. The OMT will be part of a team responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our remote microgrids through preventative/proactive maintenance, active monitoring, and pre-planned work orders. This role reports to the Sr. Service Operations Manager and has no direct reports. This role is based locally at HQ in Grass Valley, CA and blended with travel ~50% of the time to scenic remote sites across the Western US. Transportation, accommodation, and per-diems are covered as part of travel. Key Responsibilities: • Operations and Maintenance: • Lead the monitoring team in oversight of client-contracted microgrid systems. • Understand nuances of each system's operations and proactively identify potential issues. • Formulate strategies with field services/engineering teams for corrective actions. • Identify areas for continuous improvement of processes, methods, and response times. • Aim to uphold our 99.7% power reliability record and department profitability. • System Maintenance: • Coordinate and conduct routine maintenance checks (typically bi-annual) on microgrid systems to identify and address any potential issues with Inverter, PV, BESS, Generator, Structural, Mechanical systems. • Lead annual diagnostic tests to confirm guaranteed capacities and optimize system performance and efficiency. • Collaborate with service/engineering teams to implement preventive maintenance programs as needed. • Be the primary liaison, coordinator with 3rd party service providers/partners. • Documentation: • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all service activities, including installation, maintenance, and repairs. • Lead the generation of work orders, hazard analysis, field service reports, incident reports, and performance reports. • Manage/improve our documentation tracking system. • Troubleshooting: • Respond promptly to service calls/alerts when on-call and troubleshoot issues related to microgrid systems. • Analyze system logs and use diagnostic tools to identify and resolve technical problems efficiently. • Be able and willing to mobilize or assist in providing on-site support to resolve complex technical challenges. • Customer Support: • Interact with clients and end-users to address concerns, provide training, and ensure customer satisfaction. • Communicate effectively with customers to explain technical concepts and solutions in a clear and understandable manner. • Assist in vetting and developing service partner relationships. • Installation and Commissioning: • Assist as needed in the installation and commissioning of microgrid components, including solar panels, energy storage systems, generators, and control software/hardware. • Collaboration: • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, project management, and sales, to enhance overall system performance and customer experience. • Provide feedback to the development team based on real-world experiences in the field. • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications during installation processes. Requirements Technical Skills: • Technical diploma or degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy, or a related field. • Experience in the maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems. • Knowledge of AC & DC electrical systems, power electronics, and Modbus/Canbus devices/control systems. • Understanding of renewable energy technologies, including solar PV, battery energy storage, generator systems. • Computer software competence with Microsoft 365, Cloud-based project management software, real-time communications tools. • Working knowledge in navigating/configuring LAN/WAN/Networking is a plus. Soft Skills: • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment. • Willingness to travel to various project sites as needed.
