SKILLED ELECTRICAL / CARPENTRY

The Skilled Maintenance Person, under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor is responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance tasks within the MetroParks. It is the responsibility of the Skilled Maintenance Person to complete all assigned duties, tasks, instructions and/or work orders in a safe, efficient and timely manner. Typical duties include but are not limited to maintenance activities associated with the trades of electrical work, carpentry, dry wall, roofing, painting, mechanic, welding, excavation, paving, concrete, masonry, HVAC, landscaping, forestry, janitorial, snow removal, metal work, pest management and equipment repair work. This position is suitable for transitional duty. Primary Responsibilities 1. General Maintenance and Repair 70% • Minor electrical work, troubleshooting, and repair • HVAC troubleshooting and repair • Miscellaneous carpentry framing, door and window installation, and drywall repair work • Minor plumbing work and repair • Minor welding or fabrication • Performs roofing repair and maintenance • Performs road, parking lot, and walkway maintenance • Performs snow and ice removal at all MetroParks Facilities, including roads, sidewalks, etc. • Painting of facilities 2. Equipment Operation 20% • Operate project specific equipment, including but not limited to; heavy equipment, power tools, hand tools, survey and measurement equipment • Cleans, maintains, and inspects equipment • Dump truck operations for salting and plowing roads 3. Other 10% • Assist with MetroParks events as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager • Provides intra-department support as determined by Operations Supervisor or Manager • Performs janitorial services including building clean up, littler pick-up, etc. • Trail maintenance and repair including aggregate, asphalt, and drainage installation • Performs vehicle and equipment maintenance • Performs general lawn and landscape maintenance Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate and take instruction • Must be able to maintain a continuous positive attitude and professional appearance • Knowledge of current industry trends in the field of maintenance, including various individual trades, best management practices, and techniques • Ability to operate various types of maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles • Ability to multi-task and complete assignments in an efficient and timely manner • Ability to read and interpret plans, details, specifications, and operating manuals • Knowledge of MetroParks rules and regulations, policies and procedures, as well as union labor agreements • Must possess proficient technological skills and abilities in the operation of standard computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products, e-mail, smart phone capabilities, and time tracking software • Must be accessible and available on short notice for call-outs Education/ Qualifications • Must be at least 18 years old • Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License • Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs as necessary • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent along with continued education or technical school trade certification or apprenticeship • A minimum of three (3) years of general maintenance, electrical, or construction experience involving various trades for both interior and exterior project types Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform Job Functions • Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position • Able to perform hard physical labor in all indoor and outdoor environments • Ability to operate construction vehicles, such as dump trucks, backhoes, dozers, etc. • Ability to work from different degrees of height by using ladders, scaffolding, etc. • Ability to stand for long periods of time • Able to lift 50+ pounds • Must be able to use both hands to work with all necessary tools and equipment • Able to bend and twist easily from waist • Ability to reach above head with both arms • Have excellent eye sight • Have physical and mental endurance to work long hours when necessary • Ability to walk, traverse, or otherwise access trails of all types, natural terrain, construction sites, and properties under control of the MetroParks under all types of conditions Job Requirement The duties and responsibilities listed are not set forth for the purpose of limiting the assignment of work. Skilled Finish Carpenter
