Department Facilities - Maintenance Responsibilities • Performs repairs and replacement of floor tiles, ceramic tiles, and damaged carpet campus wide. Field measure, build and install and or repair kitchen cabinets vanities and shelving units along with general carpentry. Repair furniture tables, chairs etc. Repair and or install new doors and hardware. Assist other trades as needed i.e. Locksmith, plasterer and painters. • Use vehicles to carry supplies and travel campus wide to perform various skilled maintenance. Performs minor plaster and sheet rock repairs including maintenance but not limited to such tasks as doors, furniture, painting, and lock hardware. • Documents work performed and orders materials on appropriate departmental forms. Maintains tools and equipment, organizes and cleans assigned shop areas as required and performs related work as assigned by supervisor. • Performs additional maintenance and supervises helpers as required. Qualifications • High school diploma and equivalency and ten years external professional experience or a post high school education and external professional experience equal to ten years. • Builders License required. • A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or ability to obtain upon hire. Primary duties include and require • Proper setup and protection of work areas • Ability to perform meticulous, quality work without oversight and to work independently when required • Daily cleanup & tidiness • Able to produce carpentry assemblies for historic restoration projects from shop drawings and specifications Essential Skills & Employment Criteria • Ability to work independently when needed without direct supervision and remain on task • Person is trained & experienced in use of finish carpentry tools and equipment to include various saws, compressors, nail guns, impact guns, drills, routers, planers and other woodworking equipment • Person has experience and understanding with use of shop woodworking equipment to include, planers, jointers, drill press, routers, table saws, sanders, lathes and other similar equipment • Person is familiar with basic/typical species of wood used in common finish carpentry • Person can competently measure, cut & fit finished millwork and lumber of all types with measurements accurate to within 1/32” to 1/16” of an inch, including miters and angles • Person can competently use a framing and speed square for finding angles • Person can competently mark and cut angles and miters on finish grade lumber • Person can competently cope inside miters for installation of millwork with coping saw • Person is capable of installing finish millwork that is plumb, square, level and true • Person is competent at independently executing layout and install all common finish millwork to include door & window casing, base board, crown molding, cornice construction, common straight staircases and similar interior/exterior finish carpentry items for both stained and painted finish • Person can read blueprints and determine layouts and dimensions from prints • OSHA 10 training is required prior to job start • Ability to pass a security clearance We work where we live, and it shows.
