Title: CARPENTER / INSTALLER FOR CHARLOTTE COUNTY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY JOB SUMMARY: Habitat’s Carpenter performs and supervises the construction of Habitat’s affordable homes. The Carpenter should be skilled in all aspects of residential single family home construction from framing to finish. The Carpenter must possess excellent people skills and be capable, patient and enthusiastic about teaching and working with unskilled volunteers and future homeowners. The Carpenter must be a motivated self-starter with a high level of personal integrity and pride in craftsmanship possessing the ability to work in a team environment and adapt to a wide variety of conditions under strict deadlines. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: • Perform skilled construction tasks within assigned deadlines to ensure successful inspections. • Report to assigned work site each day by 8:30am in preparation for volunteer arrival. • Maintain daily volunteer sign-in sheet. • Perform safety talk, on-site task instruction and leadership to volunteers, volunteer work groups, and future homeowners at the beginning of each work day. • Ensure adequate materials/tools/supplies are readily available at the work site. • Retrieve, receive and store delivery of building materials. • Meet inspectors for inspections when necessary. • Cultivate individual week day repeat volunteers (A-Team Volunteers). • Maintain proper safety practices on the work site at all times. • Prepare site for the following work day. • Report site progress to the Director of Construction at 3:30pm each work day. • Maintain construction equipment and assigned work vehicle; ensure in proper working order by performing daily/weekly routine maintenance. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: • Knowledge and ability to perform rough framing and finish carpentry practices in all phases of residential single-family wood-frame home construction. • Ability to install trim/moldings, windows/doors, base/case, cabinets, countertops, tub/shower surround tile, vinyl siding/exterior trim, vinyl flooring, etc., utilizing hand and power tools. • Ability to operate and maintain construction tools and equipment. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints; Comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints, sketches, building plans and other specifications in accordance with local building codes. • Ability to anticipate and troubleshoot potential obstacles swiftly and efficiently. • Ability to lift 75 pounds or more; Ability to lift/carry heavy pieces of materials/supplies. • Ability to prioritize, organize and complete multiple tasks within assigned timelines. • Must be well organized and detail-oriented. • Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision. • Excellent written and verbal communication. • Effective leadership and team building skills.
