Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Construction Site Superintendent and Project Manager, the Master Carpenter at C&E Wurzer serves as the company’s highest-level craft expert in carpentry. The role combines advanced technical expertise, leadership in quality execution, and mentorship of junior carpenters. A Master Carpenter is entrusted with the most complex, custom, and high-finish carpentry scopes—delivering elite craftsmanship, elevating jobsite standards, and upholding the design vision of premium residential and commercial builds. This position requires exceptional problem-solving skills, precision, and an unwavering attention to detail. The Master Carpenter not only completes intricate carpentry work personally but also contributes to field innovation, construction methods, and quality control protocols across the project lifecycle. Duties and Responsibilities: Advanced Carpentry Work · Perform high-skill work across structural, finish, and specialty scopes (e.g., custom millwork, staircases, built-ins, beam systems, and paneling). · Interpret complex construction plans, design intent, and architectural details. · Ensure all work exceeds internal quality expectations and client standards. Field Leadership & Mentorship · Serve as a technical mentor and skill trainer to Lead Carpenters, Finish Carpenters, and Apprentices. · Set the pace and standard for craftsmanship and productivity. · Guide proper tool use, layout techniques, and carpentry best practices. Custom Design Execution · Collaborate with project managers, designers, and superintendents to bring custom elements to life. · Suggest modifications or construction methods for improved quality, fit, or efficiency. · Translate hand sketches and CAD prints into high-precision field work. Quality Assurance & Problem Solving · Identify design or material conflicts before they affect production. · Propose and implement practical solutions for challenging construction details. · Lead final punch and quality walk-throughs to resolve finishing defects. Material Expertise & Tool Use · Recommend optimal materials and fasteners for custom applications. · Operate advanced and specialty tools, both on-site and in shop environments. · Maintain and safeguard precision tools and shared equipment.
