The new team member is required to have a minimum of 4+ years of experience in a Carpenter (or similar) position focused on commercial and residential construction builds. Job Summary: We are looking for an efficient and reliable carpenter who has expansive math skills that assist them in completing construction projects and other manual tasks. From basic math to calculating floor space and wall heights, to more complex trigonometric formulas to make right-angle cuts. This position will use more than muscle and endurance to complete the work at hand. Not only do they need to understand their craft, but they also must be able to work with subcontractors, building owners, and all of the other parties involved in such undertakings. A day in the life of a Carpenter at Yukon Construction: You’re one of the main reasons progress happens on the job site. Part of your responsibilities as a Carpenter is obtaining guidance and instruction from the Super Intendent and efficiently completing multiple tasks. You already know the lay of the land and can quickly start organizing tasks and prioritizing them accordingly. Your duties include reading blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work and materials required, identifying all tools required for the task, identifying safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks, measuring, marking and cutting required wooden or metallic materials, construct, re-enforce and dismantle pre-constructed forms, build and construct wooden forms. Your attention to detail is uncompromisable and is reflected in the pride you take in your daily contributions to each project. You do not have any direct reports; however, you work closely with and oversee helper and labor positions. Responsibilities: • Studies specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine the dimensions and materials required. • Install, maintain, and repair foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as: wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials. • Fits and installs window frames, doors, door frames, door hardware, interior and exterior trim using a carpenter’s level, plumb bob, and laser levels. • Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools. • Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue. • Cut, shape, and alter materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws. • Inspects ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to identify broken or damaged pieces and structures. • Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools. • Document repairs and maintain thorough records. • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground levels. • Perform work in accordance with safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. • Moves necessary materials around the job site as assigned (able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly). • Clean up/housekeeping of work areas. • Must be willing to assist other crafts and perform additional job duties while not performing primary craft duties. Qualifications: • Must have 4+ years working as a carpenter or carpenter helper on an industrial construction project. • Must be able to read blueprints, plans, and drawings proficiently to perform duties. • Must have knowledge of materials, tools, and processes involved with basic building techniques and form construction. • Must be able to compute basic arithmetic functions, measure, mark, and cut equipment and materials to specification. • Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting. • Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools. • Pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs. • Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off of platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements. • Work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) • Great time management, organization, and communication skills. • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
