Structural Welder

THE OPPORTUNITY We are currently hiring for the role of Structural Welder. Reporting to the fabrication supervisor, a structural welder will be required to position, rework, fit, and weld in accordance to the applicable blueprints and follow all of the supervisor’s instructions. The person in this role will safely and efficiently assist in meeting our daily production requirements. Candidates will be required to take an AWS D.1.1 welding test in the 1G and 1F positions with the Fab. Supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following): • Lay out, position, align and fit components together using applicable machines, tools, and equipment. • Bolt, clamp, and tack weld parts to secure them in position for final welding. • Set up welding equipment. • Perform SMAW, FCAW, MCAW arc welding and oxyacetylene cutting on ferrous and nonferrous metals in accordance with established methods and procedures. • Maintain production documentation for each procedure. • Follow all applicable safety and sanitation procedures. • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including the safe operation of equipment and help to maintain a safe, clean work environment. • Participates in toolbox meetings. • Adheres to and promotes compliance with all company PPE requirements. • All other duties as assigned. COMPETENCIES (required skills and abilities): • Working knowledge of how to use hand tools and setup and operate applicable shop machines correctly. • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, able to take/read measurements to plan layout and apply to job. • Able to determine the appropriate welding equipment or method to use based on construction requirements. • Layout components for fitting/welding according to job specifications (cut material with saw, hand grinder and torches to match measurements). • Operate angle grinder to prepare parts to be welded. • Align job components using tape measure. • Must be able to weld in the 1G (flat welding) and 1F position. • Must be able to read and interpret welding symbols. • Must be trained to safely operate an overhead crane and operating a crane experience. • Prefer candidate to have 2 years of welding experience or completion of 1 year of a registered Apprenticeship Program. • Proficient in a variety of welding processes i.e., SMAW, GMAW, FCAW. • Experienced in using electrical or manual tools (saws, square, grindes, etc.). • Must use provided PPE (face-shield, gloves, etc.) to perform job in accordance with safety standards. • Professional Certification is an asset (AWS welding certified). • High school diploma or equivalent. • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Must be able to work in a group/team environment as well as independently. • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends when required. Candidates will be required to take an AWS D.1.1 welding test in the 1G and 1F position with Supervisor and bring gear if called for an interview. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances and in small areas with many moving pieces/parts. WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job in a manufacturing environment. The employee is exposed to hot, cold, and outside weather conditions. Employees are working with moving mechanical parts, fumes and caustic chemicals are present. The noise level in the environment includes exposure to loud noise levels.
