Location: Thomasville, GA Basic Function: Fabricate, layout, position, align, and fit parts of structural metal products. Essential Duties: • Must be proficient with cutting torch and be able to carbon arc gouge. • Must be able to use and read measuring devices such as tape measures, level, etc. • Must be able to read, understand, and work from blueprints and/or process sheets. • Must display basic welding skills and show willingness and desire to learn welding trade. • Within given time frame must be able to pass basic ASME certification tests. • Must know, understand, and abide by all plant safety rules and regulations. Experience Required: Technical training from an accredited school or six (6) months of related welding experience. Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. chest high on a regular basis. Must be able to work up to 12 hours standing and walking on hard cement surface and will be required to regularly bend, stretch, stoop, squat and climb ladders up to 8 feet high. Will require working in areas up to 15 feet from the ground. Must be able to climb stairs and work in temperature ranges corresponding with the outside ambient temperatures. Must be able to access all areas of the plant both inside and outside. Will be exposed to noise, dust, and dirt, welding fumes and machine lubricants and/or oils. Must be able and willing to work with and properly use all necessary and/or required personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed shoes and fall protection. Settings up to 250 Amp, 32 Volt, 400 IPM wire speed. • 1G, 2G and 3G welding daily. • Uses .035 - .045 metal core wire using 90/10 gas. • Grinds and wire wheels product to clean smooth surfaces for painting. • Inspects final products to print for quality assurance. • Tags all final products for identification. • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area. • Operates overhead and jib style crane. • Operates a forklift. • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Job Requirements • Minimum of 2 years solid welding experience required. • Reading and understanding blueprints prior to starting a project • Sourcing the materials to be used in the project • Measuring and cutting materials to specifications • Welding materials using the correct materials to join the metals together • Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written • Ability to read blueprints • Knowledge of metallurgy, and various welding techniques, including TIG, MIG, arc, and oxy-fuel welding • Knowledge of manual and mechanical welding techniques • Training and experience in GMAW/MIG and FCAW welding is required. • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding. • Ability to read weld symbols and follow blueprints. • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms. • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments. • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead. • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work. • Ability to safely use and lift equipment weighing 50 pounds. • Ability to work standing up to 10 hours per day.
