Introduction As a Welder at Central Moloney, you execute various fabrication duties, which is crucial in producing pole transformers. Your expertise in metalwork and welding contributes to the construction of high-quality products. Requirements Key Responsibilities: Assemble pieces of metal or repair damage in metal components. Execute various fabrication and welding tasks to meet production needs. Read and follow blueprints to ensure precise execution of welding and fabrication requirements. Cut metal into the appropriate shape and size according to specifications. Smooth molten metal to remove creases, ensuring the final product meets quality standards. Weld with various types of metal, including steel and aluminum. Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a secure working environment. Produce and maintain accurate records of welding and fabrication activities. Undertake additional duties as assigned, showcasing versatility and commitment to excellence. Additional Requirements High school diploma or GED required. Ability to read and interpret specifications. Ability to read and understand job-related materials and perform basic math. Minimum 2 Years Previous Welding Experience (MIG) Follow written instructions and supervisor directions accurately. Comfortable with physically demanding tasks and working conditions. Background check, Drug & Physical Screening required. Physical and Environmental Requirements Lifting: Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted. Environment: Work in a facility with loud noise, extreme temperatures, and environmental stressors. Physical Activities: Sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, crouch, reach, and grasp as needed. POSITION SUMMARY Lay out, fit, and weld fabricated cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts according to specifications. Select equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding. Work with other crafts as instructed by supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described. • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. • Comply with Company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties. • Monitor the working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations. • Weld components in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. • Fit, tack, and weld component parts in position, and examine welds for adherence to specifications. • Examine weld for bead size and other specifications. • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using a micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments. • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemble them according to specifications. • Set up equipment and weld parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment. • Produce high-quality welds, including watertight penetrations with a variety of materials including weld steel, stainless, and aluminum. • Work with minimal supervision. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Must have carbon air arc cutting experience with butt seams, preparation of seams after gouge, and removal of any structure when needed with the carbon air arc technique. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES May indirectly supervise and/or train subordinates. REQUIREMENTS Education/ Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one to three years of experience as a flux core arc welder desired. Requires working knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate work processes and techniques for fitting and welding steel and other materials. Requires knowledge of ship terminology, welding symbols, safety, OSHA, and ABS regulations. Requires experience and knowledge of gouging, mirror welding, mig and stick welding, and experience with carbon, stainless steel, and aluminum welding. Must pass ABS American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) welding tests to be ABS Certified. Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure. Ability to read a tape measure.
