Description: The 1st Class Structural Welder will be pivotal in the construction and assembly of marine vessels and other structural components. This role will be contributing to the structural integrity and functionality of marine projects. The schedule for this role has 6 hours of built in overtime. Additional overtime is typically available for those interested. Full Time Position: Monday-Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM and Friday 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM Successful candidates will pass a Open-Butt V-Groove Weld Test in the 3g vertical/4g overhead position(s). Key Responsibilities: • Welding Functions: Perform various welding tasks, including Frame Tacking, Non-Watertight Butts, Butt Welding, Pick-up Welding, with a focus on producing consistent, high-quality welds. • Collaboration: Coordinate close with other welders, pipe fitters, and supervisors to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects. • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues. Requirements: • Proven experience as a Structural Welder in shipbuilding or maritime construction (3 years of prior experience preferred). • Must be able to pass and certify on 3g (vertical) and 4g (overhead). • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform various welding functions with precision. • Capable of handling a physical workload and working in various positions. • Ability to consistently produce welds that meet quality and production standards. Education: • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Additional technical training or certification in welding, fabrication, or shipbuilding preferred. Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld, and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products. Test installed piping systems and install other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications. Set up equipment and weld parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment. Troubleshoot equipment. Produce high-quality welds, including water-tight penetrations with a variety of materials including weld steel, stainless, and aluminum. Work with minimal supervision. Job Requirements REQUIREMENTS Experience: Three to five years' pipe welding experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring fitting and welding steel. Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror weld. Requires knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and American Bureau of Shipbuilding (ABS) standards. Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified. Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram forms or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and verbal instructions. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors and employees. Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure. Ability to read a tape measure.
