Job Description: Howard Industries is looking for a talented Welding Engineer to join our growing team based in Laurel, MS. This position will be the subject matter expert for all welding processes within Howard Industries facilities. This position will be involved in welding design, process development, capital projects, procedure development, process improvement, welder training and weld quality. Responsibilities Facilitate the welder training program at Howard Industries Participate in engineering design reviews and manufacturing reviews Welding Procedure development Troubleshooting welding equipment when needed Troubleshooting and solving weld quality issues Specify and order new equipment as needed Participate in Automation projects as required Participate in weld quality team meetings Other tasks as assigned by manager Education and Experience B.S. in Welding Engineering, Materials Joining Engineering or related degree Ability to gain CWI certification or current CWI certification is preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of national welding codes such as AWS D1.1, AWS B2.1, AWS D9.1. Welding process knowledge of GMAW, GTAW, SW, ERW. Robot Programming knowledge is a plus. Ability to be hands-on in problem solving welding related issues and troubleshoot welding equipment. Ability to work independently and prioritize problems/projects as needed with little input. We are looking for a capable Welder who will be responsible for cutting and joining metals and other materials at our facilities or construction sites, using appropriate equipment. Your job will be to provide safe foundation for strong infrastructure. You should be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions, have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is also required. Tank Welder responsibilities are: • Explore and follow blueprints and drawings, taking measurements to plan layout and procedures • Prepare the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements • Prepare components for welding according to specifications (such as powered saws to match measurements when cutting material) • Use angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded • Use calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces to align components • Use manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions to weld components • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps • Check welded surfaces and structures for flaws by testing and inspecting them • Keep your equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety • Travel is required (75%+) Required Qualifications: • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Welder using Flux Core (FCAW) and Stick (SMAW) • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Aboveground Storage Tank (AST) Welding • Ability to pass 2G/3G/4G weld test in Flux Core and Stick Welding • TWIC Card (Current or In Progress) Preferred Qualifications: • Solid experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures, such as Flux Core and Stick able to use the automatic welding equipment The Goat and the 3 o clock • Experience with cutting torch and arc gouging • Solid experience using electrical or manual tools, such as saws, squares, calipers and so on • Must meet all criteria for a Class B Welder • Excellent knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing, such as face-shield and gloves • Good ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings • Agility, professionalism, and close attention to detail • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship program is required • Professional Certification, such as AWS welding certificate, will be a bonus HMT is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
