The Welding and Automation Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, optimization, and support of welding processes and automated manufacturing systems in a production environment. This role ensures high-quality laser welds, consistent production outputs, and seamless integration of robotic and automated equipment. The ideal candidate will collaborate with different departments to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support new product launches. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES As the Welding and Automation Engineer, you will: - Process Development & Optimization · Develop and optimize laser welding processes to meet production standards. · Define and maintain welding parameters and procedures. · Conduct root cause analysis for welding defects and rapidly implement corrective actions. - Automation & Robotics · Program and troubleshoot robotic welding cells (FANUC). · Design and implement automation solutions for welding and material handling. · Support PLC-based systems and ensure integration with factory controls (Profinet, Seimens, Linux, Fanuc, Keyence). - Quality & Compliance · Ensure compliance with industry standards. · Work with quality and production teams to monitor and improve weld quality. · Conduct regular weld audits and support PPAP submissions. - Project Management & Support · Lead projects for new equipment installations and upgrades. · Support new model launches with weld feasibility studies and tooling. · Collaboratively develop and maintain PFMEAs, control plans, and work instructions. - Continuous Improvement · Use lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to identify and implement process improvements. · Drive cost reduction initiatives related to welding consumables, cycle time, and scrap. QUALIFICATIONS As the Welding and Automation Engineer, you will have: Essential: · Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. · 3+ years of experience in welding and/or automation within automotive or high-volume manufacturing. · Proficiency in robotic programming (FANUC) and PLC troubleshooting (Siemens, Profinet, Linux, Keyence). · Strong knowledge of weld inspection techniques (visual, destructive, non-destructive). · Familiarity with GD&T, AutoCAD/SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office tools. · AWS certification or equivalent is a plus. Responsibilities • Perform visual weld inspections per AWS D1.1 (and project specs): fit-up, preheat/interpass, weld size/finish, acceptance criteria. • Verify compliance with WPS/PQR; confirm base/filler materials and parameters. • Witness/record welder qualification tests; maintain continuity logs. • Generate inspection reports, weld maps, NCRs/corrective actions; maintain traceability. • Coordinate third-party NDE (MT/PT/UT) as required; review and file reports. • Support shop audits, tool calibration, and quality/safety best practices. • Partner with Production/Engineering to resolve non-conformances quickly.
