POSITION SUMMARY The SS Welder is responsible for the day-to-day production of Pulpmill Services’ specialty welding business. Responsibilities - The position requires the employee to perform a wide variety of duties including, but not limited to the following key functions: Essential Functions 1. Efficient in mig and/or tig welding of Stainless Steel 2. Proficient in reading weld symbols 3. Proficient in checking dimensions and thicknesses 4. Able to follow engineering plans, drawings and instructions 5. Other duties as required Expectations 1. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, etc. 2. Great sense of urgency 3. Good communication and people skills 4. Be able to think quickly and critically in response to scope changes on small to large equipment 5. Experience working in a metal fabrication shop 6. Ability to work independently and with other personnel 7. Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials Qualifications- • 2+ years of high alloy welding experience. • Valid driver’s license/State ID. • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen. Welder / Fabricator – Heavy Equipment & Highway Construction D&J Construction Company, a leading highway construction contractor in Louisiana, seeks an experienced Welder / Fabricator to support and maintain our fleet of earth-moving, paving, and specialized construction equipment. This is a full-time role critical to keeping our field operations running safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Position Overview: The Welder / Fabricator is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and fabricating structural and mechanical components used in heavy equipment and highway construction. This includes welding repairs, custom fabrication, equipment modification, and both shop-based and field-support activities. A skills assessment welding test will be required prior to hiring. Key Responsibilities • Structural & Component Repair • Weld cracks, breaks, and worn areas on buckets, blades, frames, trailers, and attachments. • Gouge, cut, bevel, and prepare metal; apply appropriate filler metals and maintain proper heat control. • Custom Fabrication • Interpret blueprints or sketches to fabricate guards, handrails, brackets, and specialized jigs. • Lay out, fit-up, tack weld assemblies, and verify dimensions and tolerances. • Equipment Modifications • Collaborate closely with mechanics to adapt or reinforce equipment for specific project demands (e.g., asphalt plants, conveyors). • Quality & Safety • Perform visual inspections of completed welds to ensure quality. • Adhere strictly to company safety protocols, including PPE, confined-space, and hot-work policies. • Shop & Field Support • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and service trucks safely and efficiently. • Maintain inventory of welding consumables, gas cylinders, and ensure proper shop housekeeping. Job Requirements • Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy-equipment or structural welding (carbon and abrasion-resistant steels). • Proficient in MIG, flux-core, and stick welding processes; basic TIG welding experience is a plus. • Ability to read fabrication drawings and accurately measure with tape measures, squares, and calipers. • Basic mechanical aptitude, including understanding hydraulics and equipment wear points on heavy machinery (dozers, excavators, pavers, etc.). • Competence in oxy-fuel and plasma cutting, grinders, and portable welders. • Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class B preferred for field service truck operation.
