SECOND SHIFT Competitive Shift Differential Job Summary Perform welding of various company products in compliance with the corporate mission and values, and departmental financial objectives. Essential Functions • Perform production welding and other tasks as assigned by the supervisor; • Produce CJP, PJP and fillet welds in ALL welding positions using FCAW and SMAW welding processes; • Produce CJP, PJP welds in the 1G and 2G welding positions and be able to produce fillet welds in the 1F and 2F welding positions using SAW-A and SAW-SA welding processes; • Be willing and able to operate various pieces of grinding equipment for extended periods of time; • Inspect products to ensure quality and be able to identify and correct unacceptable areas; • Effectively set up and operate mechanical and manual cutting devices; • Effectively set and use air carbon arc gouging equipment; • Effectively set up and operate all welding equipment; • Understand and interpret shop drawings, prints and weld symbols; • Able to read and use standard and metric measuring devices; • Assist in training efforts and possess the ability to mentor and assist other welding personnel; • Maintain equipment and work area and be able to identify potential hazards and make necessary corrections; • Perform independently and function in a safe, professional and conscientious manner; • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in an effective professional and courteous manner with customers, coworkers, clients and supervisors; • Possess the ability to safely and effectively operate, use and maneuver cranes and other lifting devices, as well as possessing the ability to select and correctly use rigging and other related material handling equipment. Additional Responsibilities • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervision including but not limited to, cleaning, trash and scrap removal, and other production related jobs; • Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of the work area and shop; • Understand and be in compliance with all of Canam Bridges internal documentation systems; • Work in a safe, professional and conscientious manner. Qualifications • High school diploma or GED preferred; • Welding experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; • Must possess basic reading and mathematical skills. Additional Information Physical Demands The ability to stand continuously is essential, with occasional walking and sitting. The nature of the position will require employees to perform a wide range of physical activities ranging from pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying heavy objects (60 lbs.) climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling. Repetitive motions and awkward body positioning. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Work Environment The following working environments are as follows but not limited to: Required to work near moving mechanical parts and machinery. Working conditions may include being outside or inside in all environmental conditions. Potential exposure to: fumes and airborne particulates. Potential risk of electric shock. Potential burn hazards such as: UV light radiation, open flames, sparks and other sources. Noise levels in the work environment will require the use of appropriate hearing protection at all times. The correct usage of PPE will be required at all times.
