Fleet Body & Maintenance Technician/Welder

The City of Concord is looking for a Fleet Body & Maintenance Technician/Welder. The right individual will have a strong work ethic and enjoy working with a motivated team. Minor painting and body repairs on trucks, automobiles, road maintenance equipment, salt spreaders, and heavy equipment vehicles. Also performs welding/metal fabrication. Performs skilled repairs in servicing, preventative maintenance, and repair of automotive, heavy-duty trucks and equipment, and emergency response vehicles. Orders necessary fleet repair/maintenance parts and paint from parts technician. Repairs minor collision damage on all city vehicles and equipment; performs mechanical duties needed to repair collision damage. Repairs minor body corrosion, installs patches, and prepares damaged or rusted areas for painting of vehicles not requiring outside repairs. Applies lettering/decals to exterior body and interior of windows of vehicles. Undercoats vehicles and equipment for rust prevention. Prepares surplus vehicles for auction removing lights, decals, and equipment. Performs minor body repair work such as installing doors, door glass, bumpers, heavy truck mirrors and replacing damaged vehicle parts. Maintains record of completed repairs, including time and parts used. Fabricates parts from steel and sheet metal. Performs minor welding on autos, trucks, heavy equipment, and snow plows. Installs accessories such as tool boxes, trailer hitches and racks to vehicles. Maintains clean organized work areas. Attends training classes on painting/body repair, welding, and vehicle maintenance. Maintains personal tool inventory. Regularly required to work overtime during emergencies [nights, weekends, and holidays] performing maintenance on city fleet vehicles during emergency operations i.e.: snow removal operations, ice storm, wind/rain storms, etc. Will be exposed to wet or humid conditions; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat. Performs other related duties as assigned.Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; and, minimum of six years of experience in general auto/truck repairs, welding, minor automotive painting and/or body repair work; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver’s License. Acquire the following within 12 months from date of hire with the assistance of the city: CDL B operator’s license NH State Motor Vehicle Inspectors license. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: Torch Welding Equipment Grinder/Sander Drills Hand Tools Sprayers and other Painting Equipment Diagnostic scanners Computers [shop and diagnostic] KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in the automotive painting trade. Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in general Auto and truck repairs. Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in welding and metal fabrication. Skill in: Performs skilled repairs in servicing, preventative maintenance, and repair of automotive, heavy-duty trucks and equipment, and emergency response vehicles. Use of sanders/grinders, spray guns, air tools, reciprocating saws, band saws, drill press, hydraulic tools, and other tools and equipment of the trade. Minor repair and automotive painting Performing welding/metal fabricating and use of Mig and Stick welders. Mental and Physical Abilities to: Perform required, related mechanical functions. Follow both written and oral instructions. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; exert 20 to 50 pounds of force. Frequently lift and move heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Climb ladders. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Distinguish between shades of color. Working Conditions: Incumbent will be working near moving mechanical parts and machinery; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; dust, dirt, grease. Incumbent's working conditions are moderately loud. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, respirators, goggles, face shield, and gloves.
