Position: Welder (FCAW & GTAW) Location: Camden, NJ; Advanced Manufacturing Division Holtec International is seeking highly skilled Welders proficient in Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) to support the fabrication of critical components for the nuclear, energy, and heavy industrial sectors. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience in multiple welding positions and processes and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and precision in a heavy-plate manufacturing environment. The Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welds on carbon steel and stainless steel using a variety of welding processes including FCAW in horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, as well as GTAW. This position involves the setup and operation of automatic, semi-automatic, and manual welding equipment. Welders are expected to follow technical drawings and specifications to ensure that all work meets Holtec’s rigorous quality standards. Minimum required qualifications include: High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of 2–4 years of welding experience in a heavy plate manufacturing or industrial environment. Ability to perform and pass FCAW weld tests in 2G and 3G positions is required. Demonstrated proficiency with FCAW and GTAW on carbon and stainless steel. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical documentation. Working knowledge of AWS standards and industry best practices. Additional desirable qualifications: Previous certification to ASME Section IX and/or AWS D1.1/D1.6. Experience in nuclear or high-spec industrial fabrication environments. Multi-process welding experience (e.g., SMAW, GMAW, SAW) is a plus. Familiarity with digital weld documentation and inspection tools. Specific Areas of Responsibility: Perform all work in a safe manner in compliance with Holtec’s safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Prepare, position, align, and fit materials for welding based on engineering drawings, work orders, and WPS (Weld Procedure Specifications). Execute welding operations in all required positions, ensuring high-quality welds that meet visual and X-ray inspection standards. Use tools of measurement and layout techniques to confirm part dimensions and tolerances. Layout, tack weld, heat-bend, clamp, grind, and bolt components to ensure accurate preparation and alignment prior to welding. Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding process to avoid material distortion or overheating. Visually inspect welds for defects, ensuring adherence to AWS and Holtec quality standards. Operate a range of welding equipment (manual, semi-automatic, and automatic), including GTAW, FCAW, SAW, and plasma arc. Safely handle materials and parts using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with housekeeping and safety standards. • Must pass pre-employment weld tests administered in accordance with Holtec’s WPS requirements. May be required to work overtime, nights, weekends, or travel based on production needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Ensure that all Hanwha Philly Shipyard safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met • Knowledge and proficiency of heavy shipyard construction welding in all positions using approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) determined by Hanwha Philly Shipyard and classification society • Welding process includes: • FCAW – Flux Core Arc Welding • SMAC – Shielded Metal Arc Welding • SAW – Submerged Arc Welding • EGW – Electro Gas Welding • Automated Welding Processes • Stainless Steel Fillet Welding • Padding and preparing weld joints per WPS • Carbon Arc Gouging • Note: Not inclusive, shall be determined by vessel specification and classification rules • Knowledge, understanding and demonstration of interpreting approved WPS set forth at Hanwha Philly Shipyard • Knowledge and ability on how to use all tools related to welding, including basic trouble shooting and maintaining welding equipment to assure a safe and efficient operation • Welder must proficiently demonstrate welding ability through performance, and testing as determined by vessel project and classification • Welder must be able to work in a team environment • Welder shall perform internal quality checks of own work performance to assure quality standards are achieved daily • Welder shall maintain their individual NDT rejection set forth by Hanwha Philly Shipyard and classification society • Perform other related duties as required and assigned COMPETENCIES • Work Independently according to valid instructions and Hanwha Philly Shipyard rules and standards • Flexible cooperation with team members • Must be able to work in different environments and areas (e.g. indoors, outdoors, in confined spaces, on scissor lifts and aerial lifts, and in inclement weather) • Ability to orient, train and instruct lesser skilled welders SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILTY This position has no supervisory responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Position: Weld Engineer Place of Work: Camden, NJ; Advanced Manufacturing Division or Pittsburgh, PA; Holtec Manufacturing Division Holtec International seeks qualified Weld Engineers to join its Manufacturing Engineering team. The Weld Engineer will play a critical role in supporting production operations across Holtec's facilities by developing, qualifying, and implementing advanced welding processes and solutions. This position will be responsible for providing materials and welding engineering expertise to support design, fabrication, and troubleshooting activities related to a wide range of complex components and systems for Holtec's product lines in the nuclear, energy, and heavy industrial sectors. The Weld Engineer will work closely with design engineering, operations, quality assurance, and certified Level III personnel to evaluate and improve welding procedures, recommend materials based on design objectives, and support the resolution of production and field issues. The ideal candidates will demonstrate a high level of technical acumen, innovation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Minimum required qualifications include a B.S. degree in Welding Engineering or Materials Science from an accredited institution. Review new product designs and recommend appropriate materials and joining techniques based on performance requirements such as strength, corrosion resistance, conductivity, weight, and cost. Support the qualification and implementation of new welding procedures, including advanced and non-traditional techniques. Plan, evaluate, and support new manufacturing projects by collaborating with design engineers, project managers, and production teams. Participating in root cause analyses of welding and materials-related failures using lab testing, product failure data, and process history. Monitor and analyze material and weld performance in service to identify potential deterioration or improvements. Support troubleshooting of welding equipment and work closely with operations to optimize welding operations. Ensure all welding activities conform to applicable codes and standards such as ASME Section III & IX, AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.6, and MIL-STD 248/278. Prepare technical reports, budgets, weld qualification records, and engineering documentation as required. Participate in hands-on manufacturing and inspection activities, including support for NDE methods and field services.
