Job Title: TIG Welder Job Description We are seeking two experienced TIG Welders to assist in the fabrication of metal enclosures for various research purposes. The ideal candidates will have expertise in working with light gauge stainless steel ranging from .048 to .120 thickness and must have strong skills in TIG welding. Attention to detail and quality is crucial as the welds will not be ground or polished after completion. Responsibilities • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. • Set up and operate TIG welding equipment. • Fabricate and assemble metal structures using proper welding methods and techniques. • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers. • Operate safety equipment and follow safe work habits. • Monitor the fitting and welding processes to prevent overheating or distortion of materials. • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, and grind component parts to achieve required configurations and positions for welding. • Recognize and use hand and power tools common to the welding trade. • Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, and work orders to plan layout and welding operations. • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. Essential Skills • Proven experience in TIG welding of light gauge stainless steel (.048 to .120 thickness). • Ability to read and interpret welding and fabrication drawings. • Strong measurement reading skills using tape measures. • Knowledge of blueprint reading, grinders, hand clamps, welding equipment, protective gloves, safety glasses, TIG welding equipment, and welding masks. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. • Capability to work under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS • Tig weld stainless steel components based on the specifications of the blueprints and/or drawings (1G, 2G, 3G or 4G positions) • Reads and interprets blueprints to determine specific welding/assembly requirements. • Sets-up welding machines based on the job requirements or using a Welding Procedure Specification (set welding program on equipment, create weld parameters, amps, gas flow, polarity, etc.) • Follows and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications and proper loading of parts. • Lays out, positions, aligns and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination/framing squares and tape measure based on the specifications of the blueprints and/or drawings. • Finishes grinding applications using manual and power tools when needed (grinders, sanders, cutters etc.) • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify the supervisor. • Monitors the welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion or expansion of material. • Use of conventional and precision measuring instruments (calipers/measuring tape). • Assembles items as instructed by supervisor/manager. • Follows all safety rules and quality standards including all company policies and procedures. • Performs job assignments in a safe and productive manner while maintaining high quality levels. • Adheres to standardized work practices in a continuous improvement environment. • Keeps work areas clean and organized while taking care of all equipment and facilities. • Other duties as assigned. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS • Knowledge of blueprint reading, drawings, calipers, grinders, hand clamps, and measuring tapes. • Ability to weld light gauge stainless steel material (.048” - .120”) • Successful completion of an internal welding test • Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents and fractions to decimal equivalents. • Must be able to work in a fast-paced high volume production environment under tight time constraints. • Must possess an understanding of production procedures. • Must adhere to health and safety regulations (consistent use of P.P.E including but not limited to protective gloves, safety glasses, TIG (Tungsten inert gas), TIG welding equipment and welding masks.) • High level of attention to detail • Must have excellent time management skills and work ethic. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written. • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
