Must be capable of erecting and Bolting Up structural steel, Rigging and Flagging using cranes, Chain Falls etc, Field Fabrication,Detail work and Demo. Wire Welding experience is a plus. Pay is based on verifiable experience. The Welder will work from specifications provided by the Foreman, where defects are examined and specifications are met. Various welding techniques are used to obtain the required configurations and positions for welding. Job Duties And Responsibilities • Welds structural (sheet) steel in all positions (3G and 4G are most common, with the occasional 6G). • Lays out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies before assembly using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, flange lineup pins, wrap-around, center finders, and rulers. This position is responsible for self-performed fittings. • Examine work pieces for defects; measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. • Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications • Education: Must possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or be eligible/willing to obtain one upon hire. • Experience: One (1) year of experience in structural welding in vertical (3G) and overhead (4G) positions within the construction industry. • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): Thorough knowledge of practices and materials of the welding craft & trade. Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Must pass the company-assigned 3G and 4G weld test with satisfactory results before hire. Preferred Qualifications • Certification(s): Professional Welding Certification, preferred. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) or Stick welding certification. • Experience: Three (3) years of experience in structural welding (SMAW or stick welding) in vertical (3G) and overheard (4G) positions within the construction industry. 6G (horizontal welding) experience, and cutting torch experience. • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA): General knowledge of Marine or Railroad construction terminology, and/or pile driving knowledge or skills. WORKING CONDITIONS • The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. • The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. Welding will be FCAW (flux core) and incumbent must have experience in that process on storage tanks, or ships etc. • Must be able to successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements. Physical/Site Requirements: • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds. • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with age. • Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. • PPE footwear/prescription safety glasses or eye shields required.
