Job Title: Sheet Metal Technician Job Description Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment for general aviation aircraft. Work involves setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using a hammer; operating soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; and inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces. Responsibilities: Lay out sheet metal parts using blueprints, drawings, written or verbal instructions. Alter existing parts using blueprints, drawings, written or verbal instructions. Rivet and sheet metal component removal. Bend and form a radius on fabricated sheet metal parts. Drill various metals. Debur holes and cut lines. Set up for and countersink holes. Set up for and dimple holes. Set up for and install solid rivets with a rivet gun. Set up for and install solid rivets with a squeeze tool. Install blind rivets and fasteners. May create units or subassemblies at a bench or other work locations. Performs a variety of assembly operations such as riveting and welding. Performs and demonstrates any of the operations within the group. Utilizes hand tools, power tools and other special equipment to perform assigned job. Works as a member of a team, and helps train less experienced workers. Possesses a good understanding of the entire sign manufacturing process, and interacts with other departments to solve production problems. Often refers to technical drawings, engineering notes, production schedules or other reference material. Responsible for checking quality of own work. Performs rework if product is rejected, due to quality of the unit. POSITION SUMMARY The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing of sheet metal products and equipment, such as non-pressurized storage tanks, direct contact water heaters and related duct work components. Work may involve any of the following: setting up and operating fabricating machines to cut, bend, roll and straighten sheet metal; shaping metal operating welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; or inspecting, assembling, and smoothing seams and joints of burred surfaces. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ·Set up and operation of hydraulic press brake; forming various sheet metal and plate parts. ·Set up and operation of plate rolls; material size ranges from ¼” plate to 20-gauge stainless steel. ·Set up and operation of sheet metal shear. Must be able to calculate best cut to minimize scrap. ·Must be able to MIG weld from ¼” plate to 20-gauge stainless, and carbon steel material. ·Must understand or be willing to learn the operation of plate rolls, welders and various machines in the process of forming parts; forming material that ranges from ¼” plate to 20-gauge stainless steel. Reads assembly prints and procedures. ·Other job duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE ·High school diploma or GED required. ·Trade or Technical School Degree preferred. ·2-3 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication. ·Natural mechanical skills. ·Basic math skills and the ability to read assembly prints and procedures. ·Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain standing for the majority of the work day.
