Description: Coastal Mechanical, a Rogers Building Solutions business unit, is one of the largest mechanical contractors in the Southeast and is currently seeking sheet metal mechanics to work on large commercial projects in the Sarasota area. Work is primarily in the healthcare, educational, industrial and Government sectors. This role requires a minimum of 4-5 years of commercial sheet metal experience, strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various environments, often under tight deadlines. Employer conducts background checks, motor vehicle checks and drug screening. This is a safety sensitive position. Requirements: Fabrication 1. Measuring and Cutting: Precisely measure and cut sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, or machines like shears and saws. 2. Assembling Components: Join sections of metal using welding, riveting, or soldering techniques. Installation 1. Ductwork Installation: Install HVAC systems, including ductwork, vents, and hoods, ensuring proper air distribution and compliance with building codes. Maintenance and Repairs 1. Repair Work: Fix or replace damaged parts, ensuring structural and functional integrity. Safety and Compliance 1. Blueprint Reading: Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to execute precise work. 2. Adherence to Codes: Ensure all work complies with local and national building codes and standards. 3. Safety Practices: Follow OSHA and workplace safety protocols when handling tools and materials. Collaboration 1. Teamwork: Work with engineers, architects, and other tradespeople to complete projects. 2. Communication: Coordinate with project managers and supervisors to ensure project timelines and specifications are met. Other Tasks • Operating forklifts, lifts, and other equipment to position materials. • Maintaining tools and equipment to ensure they remain in good working order. Key Responsibilities • The Sheet Metal Superintendent will supervise and coordinate the material for and activities of Foremen, Journeymen and Apprentices engaged in the installation of sheet metal systems. • Interpret specifications, blueprints, submittals, and job orders as needed for project. • Assemble procurement orders for materials, equipment and tools required at each project commencement. • Establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedule, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel. • Evaluate Foreman and workers abilities and expertise to ensure the most productive job placement. • Study schedules and estimate man-hour requirements for completion of job. • Analyze and resolve work problems and maintain time records. • When necessary, make cost estimates for contracts. • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations. • Conduct timely performance appraisals for all assigned workers. • Follow HR procedures for hiring, terminations and disciplinary actions. • Understand, or be willing to learn and apply, Lean principles and processes. Qualifications • Strong understanding of SMACNA, Florida Building and AHCA codes. • Ability to troubleshoot Test and Balance issues. • Adept working with coordinated shop drawings from BIM as well as remodel projects with only contract drawings. • Knowledge of labor tracking. • Completion of the apprenticeship program and appropriate Foreman experience preferred. • OSHA30, CPR/1st Aid, Qualified Rigging and Signaling, Forklift, Fall Protection, Scissor Lift. • Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction). Must be able to hear and speak clearly with professional standard grammar. Must use hands, fingers, arms and legs fully; kneel, crouch and crawl; climb and balance on ladders and scaffolds; climb stairs, reach overhead, push, pull, lift and stoop.
