Summary This position repairs, alters, constructs, modifies, and uses all acceptable plumbing methods and practices by plumbing code to provide routine and preventative maintenance throughout the organization and grounds as directed by Management. The purpose of the role is to provide an outstanding service to customers, by providing a flexible, productive and efficient response in delivering a wide range of maintenance and improvement work. Responsibilities (34%)* Works from verbal and written orders, sketches, drawings and manufacturer’s specifications. (33%)* Performs programmed and preventative maintenance. Installs, lubricates and repairs machinery, mechanical, and other equipment (i.e. pumps, ice makers, steam distribution, etc). (33%)* Repairs plumbing equipment and dismantles equipment as referenced above. Replaces faulty or defective mechanical, electrical and plumbing parts. Restores equipment systems. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Studies blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout location, and specifications of items to be installed or repaired. Estimates quantities of materials needed and prepares requisition. Performs minor carpentry if required in connection with plumbing work performed. May perform work other than core trade in maintenance and/or construction. Instructs and/or helps less experienced maintenance personnel as required and/or directed. Maintain an effective channel of communication with Management and all customers as required. Adopt a flexible approach to work, undertaking and promoting work within a multi-trade environment to avoid duplication and follow up on work being passed to other co-workers. Ensure the correct and proper use of all relevant mechanical and non-mechanical plant and equipment including fleet vehicles, tools, work wear, PPE and other relevant equipment Adopt a flexible responsive maintenance service on plumbing fixtures and systems. Provide a high level of customer service at all times, behaving in a respectful, courteous and polite manner to internal and external customers when representing MyMichigan Health Copes with and handles discrepancies and variations from regular system or procedure, which may occasionally arise. Maintains records and performs other duties as required including, but not limited to, snow/ice removal. Must have ability to work alone or with others. Job Description: The Plumber is responsible for performing all plumbing trades functions necessary to assemble, install, maintain, and repair fixtures, equipment, and systems related to the facility. Essential Job Duties: • Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. • Studies building plans and drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. • Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe. • Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bobs • Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools. • Cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torches, and pipe-threading machine. • Bends pipe to required angles. • Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications • Unloading and carrying materials to the jobsite • Assisting with the installation of pipe and fittings for copper, cast iron, and PVC/CPVC pipes, and for drain, sewer, and gas lines. • Utilizing hand tools and cutters to cut pipe to desired lengths and electric and hand threaders to thread pipe. • Installing fittings and components above and inground • Locates and diagnoses trouble in the plumbing systems or equipment. • Document actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation. • Repair plumbing issues by replacing or installing components. • Determine the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps. • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and through reporting violations of policies, procedures and guidelines to the immediate Supervisor. • Answer emergency calls quickly, assess the safety of the situation upon arriving at the scene and provide directions to individuals affected. • Maintain equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; report any issues to immediate Supervisor. • Other duties as assigned.
