The Economic Development & Planning Department is seeking a professional Plumbing Inspector who is knowledgeable of the Michigan Plumbing Codes and the related code standards and references, including standard tools, materials, and practices of the plumbing trade. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING: • Must meet the minimum eligibility requirements in accordance with State Act #54 for registration as a Plumbing Inspector and Plan Reviewer and make application both these titles within thirty (30) days of notification of selection for this position. Registration as Plumbing Inspector and Plan Reviewer must be retained during the entire length of employment in this position. Failure to obtain or retain both of these registrations will result in appropriate action consistent with the Teamsters Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement. IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING: • High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of experience as a journey level plumber; • Or an equivalent combination of training and experience. • Must possess and maintain a valid Journeyman or Master's Plumbing License. • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. • ICC certification as a plumbing inspector is preferred. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • Reviews applications for plumbing permits to ensure that the plans conform to the codes and all other applicable rules and regulations that affect plumbing. • Issues permits and makes field safety inspections of work being done in accordance with these permits. • Makes periodic inspection of commercial and industrial occupancies to see that plumbing installations conform to the pertinent plumbing code. • Review residential and commercial plumbing plan reviews • Maintains billing procedures for permit fees. • Advises owners on necessary corrections to conform to state codes. • Disconnects any plumbing system that is dangerous to life or property. • Answers questions from contractors, members of the public and other parties. • Checks and approves blueprints for proposed construction.
