Overview Repairs, tests, inspects, and installs plumbing and steam equipment in accordance with current codes and safety regulations. Responsibilities • Inspects machine rooms and gas manifold rooms for proper operation of gas delivered systems, acid waste system, medical/lab air, medical/lab surgical vacuum, steam stations, hot water heaters, condensate pumps and any other plumbing equipment. Evaluates and execute emergency repairs and/or adjustments, or recommend long and short term repairs. Determines and implements alternatives for providing continued service in an emergency situation. • Evaluates and identifies problems or conditions which are outside normal set points and make adjustments and/or repairs. Monitors adjustments to assure effective corrective action; utilizes plumbing blueprints to identify problem items and/or areas. • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment. Completes all necessary PM and work order documentation. • Performs assigned work order repairs on plumbing equipment with consideration for impact on ongoing operations. Evaluates the nature of the reported problem, determines the most effective method of analysis and corrective measures, assures problem correction and necessary follow-up. Completes all necessary work order documentation. • Investigates reported complaints regarding poor operation of any plumbing system and attempts to remedy the problem. • Installs and modifies plumbing equipment water lines, drainage lines, gas manifolds, medical gases, plumbing fixtures, hot water heaters, steam distribution equipment, acid waste piping and dilution tanks in accordance with established plans, specifications and codes and standards, utilizing sound work practices, appropriate methods, materials and equipment, and proper coordination with other trades. Provides planning and design input. • Evaluates and recommends needs for spare parts and supplies in the storeroom and as necessary to accomplish work orders, projects and PM’s. • Studies plumbing systems, blueprints, and schematics. Evaluates systems and equipment, making recommendations for improved cost effective operations. • Performs other duties as assigned or required. Qualifications • High school graduate with 4 years apprenticeship training and 2 years of field experience. • Desirable Qualifications: Blueprint and shop drawing reading experience, some electrical and electrical controls experience, some welding and metal fabrication experience Required Licensure/Certifications • None
