Inspector/Plans Examiner, Plumbing & Mechanical

Compensation: $74,874.84 - $119,799.76 Job Description: The primary function of this position is to perform plumbing and mechanical inspections for conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes in keeping with Monroe County’s mission, vision, and values, as well as perform plumbing and mechanical plan review for compliance with the Florida Building Code and Monroe County Code for permitting. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Receives inspection requests, log requests, and results into computer. • Performs plan review for compliance to all current plumbing and mechanical codes. • Performs all plumbing and mechanical field inspections for compliance to all applicable codes and permits. • Researches equipment for compliance in related fields (plumbing and mechanical) and certification from testing agencies. • Inspects structural and non-structural construction for conformance with plans, specifications, and applicable codes. • Assists permitting staff, design professionals, contractors, and community with code and compliance information, via phone, in person, counter service, and email. • Inputs plan review notes in computer. • Issues “stop work orders” for non-conformance or life-safety issues. • Investigates complaints and coordinates w/Code Enforcement. • Performs other related job duties as assigned. • In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High school diploma/GED. 7 years minimum of prior related work experience. ]Special Qualifications: Must possess a Standard Inspector (Plumbing and Mechanical) license issued by the State of Florida and a Standard Plans Examiner (Plumbing and Mechanical) license issued by the State of Florida or applicant must demonstrate work experience and apply to the State of Florida for a provisional Inspector (Plumbing and Mechanical) and Plans Examiner (Plumbing and Mechanical) license immediately upon selection and obtain provisional licenses within 6 months from date of hire. Must obtain Standard Inspector (Plumbing and Mechanical) license and Standard Plans Examiner (Plumbing and Mechanical) licenses within 2 years from date of hire. Ability to obtain multiple licenses preferred. Valid Florida Driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Ability to oversee the work of a team engaged in providing specific services, completing specific projects, or assisting other units. • Ability to perform professional-level work dealing with data, people, and technology that relates to administrative, technical, scientific, engineering, accounting, legal, or managerial skills. • Ability to follow basic guidelines for operational activities. • Ability to make decisions that govern the activities and behaviors of staff members. • Ability to work with more than ten coworkers who mostly engage in the same activities as me.
