Plumber The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Plumber to work in the Rosenstiel Medical Science Building. The Plumber, Licensed inspects, repairs, modifies, and maintains plumbing fixtures in heating, water and drainage systems to preserve the safe functioning and quality of all systems throughout the facilities. Further the Plumber, Licensed provides mentorship and supervision to junior plumbers and performs the more complex repairs and modifications. • Performs Preventive Maintenance work as assigned by supervisor • Maintains work areas and equipment rooms in a clean and safe condition at all times • Receives requests for corrective repair work on a variety of building physical structures, equipment and system components; utilizes several trades’ skills in the performance of maintenance and repair work. • Repairs panels, partitions and other building structures; installs building parts and cuts, shapes and fastens materials such as wood, plastic, ceiling tile, fiberglass and drywall to make ready for installation; may erect or repair building frames; performs carpentry work using tools such as, but not limited to chisels, planes, saws and drills; installs and changes locks. • Keeps daily logs on major components up-to-date. Cleans and paints equipment. Unstops drains, checks boilers, and water treatment systems in addition to gas and sewer lines. • Contacts the appropriate supervisor when the nature of the work is beyond the mechanic’s capability - then assists with the completion of the work as required. • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, traps, sewers and vents; bends, cuts, reams and threads pipe and opens holes in walls for pipes; secures and supports sanitary fixtures; connects piping with fittings and adhesives; performs soldering as necessary; opens clogged drains with plungers and other devices; inspects piping for leaks both visually and using pressure gauges. • Mixes and makes concrete and mortar; constructs and sets forms for holding concrete in proper alignment; pours, spreads and finishes concrete surfaces; spreads mortar for repairs; cleans concrete surfaces after drying; breaks and disposes of old concrete. • Repairs leaky or old building roofs; locates source of roof leaks; removes existing roof surfaces; lays roofing paper and applies coating and adhesives to seal the leaking and/or old area. • Routinely maintains and repairs circulator and sump pumps, refrigeration unit’s drains, bearings, universal joints and similar mechanical equipment. This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary. Core Qualifications • High School diploma or equivalent • Certification in relevant specialty or field • Three years of experience in the routine maintenance and repair of building physical structures, equipment and systems components utilizing several building trades’ skills. • The individual must possess a valid Journeyman or Maintenance Plumbing license • The individual must possess valid motor vehicle operator’s license as issued by the State prior to appointment. • The person must maintain such valid license during tenure of employment Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. • Commitment to the University’s core values. • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. • Ability to understand and follow instructions. • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and building codes (as appropriate) used in at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades and BOCA codes. • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees. • Communicate verbally with peers via two-way radios plus read and write English.
