PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Brick/Block Mason lays building materials, such as brick, concrete block, stone, glass block, and terra-cotta block to construct high-quality walls and other structures in residential and small commercial masonry. ROUTINE DUTIES: • Construct corners by fastening in a plumb position a corner pole or building a corner pyramid of bricks, ensuring accuracy and stability. • Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work, using plumb bobs, rules, and levels. • Break or cut bricks, tiles, or blocks to size, using trowel edge, hammer, or power saw. • Remove excess mortar with trowels and hand tools, and finish mortar joints with jointing tools, for a sealed, uniform appearance. • Assist the Masonry Foreman in estimating materials needed for daily tasks and ensuring work reaches the required heights. • Operate construction lifts and equipment as needed. • Support laborers as needed, in stocking materials, building scaffolding and site clean-up. • Follow safety protocols and regulations to minimize risks of injury and property damage. • Perform additional duties as needed, including patching and general site maintenance.
