As a member of the branch production team, you will be responsible for the performance of work within a particular work area and in accordance with generally accepted standards of the crafts. • Analyzing and interpreting building plans. • Interpreting work orders and determining the materials required. • Measuring distance from reference points. • Calculating angles and determining the vertical and horizontal alignment of courses. • Laying bricks using mortar as a binder and a trowel to level. • Fastening bricks with wire clamps or cement. • Working safely on scaffolds and swing stages at various heights. • Using equipment and tools effectively to perform basic construction tasks. • Prepares surfaces by cutting and/or grinding out problem areas of walls and floors. • Cleans and preps problem areas prior to the application of material. • Cuts out, repairs, preps, packs and caulks joints of walls and floors. • Sprays, brushes, rolls or applies material to surfaces of walls and floors as specified. • May work below grade by preparing and applying waterproofing materials to the foundation walls and footings. • Applications include spraying, rolling, and brushing materials, nailing panels, or gluing sheet goods. • May be required to rig mobile and stationary scaffolding in accordance with corporate guidelines. Requirements To be qualified for this job, experience in a trade or craft is preferred. See More Details >>About the position Responsibilities • Install, modify, and repair facility masonry walls, floors, and structures. • Provide support to facility renovation, repair, and construction projects in compliance with project documents and schedules. • Repair campus masonry structures, emphasizing restoring original architecture and function. • Assist other shop trades personnel with project-related duties, including asphalt and concrete construction or repair, interior demolition, installation or removal of scaffold, and relocation of furniture and heavy equipment. • Read, understand, and work from drawings, specifications, standards, and written or verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. • Ensure projects are executed in accordance with project requirements, campus standards, and applicable codes. • Provide special event support to campus departments, including construction/assembly of platforms, steps, and stages; delivery and setup of flags and banners; staging of barricades; and tower lighting support. • Promote and maintain frequent communications and positive relations with all stakeholders. • Promote a culture of teamwork within the shop and with other shops. • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely completion of projects. • Emphasize accountability for meeting schedule commitments. • Practice and promote the values and goals of the university and the hiring department. • Provide timely and accurate processing of shop written and electronic documentation, including material requisitions, timesheets, and daily labor reports. • Develop estimates and order materials. • Assist team members in solving work-related problems at jobsites. • Maintain high standards for employee conduct, productivity, and safety. • Support zone maintenance shops and other campus departments in repair of campus facilities. • Drive UT vehicle to and from job sites to deliver personnel, equipment, and materials. • Attend management-directed meetings and training. Requirements • High school graduation or GED. • At least three years journey-level commercial or industrial masonry experience. • Current driver's license and acceptable driving record for the most recent 36 months. Nice-to-haves • More than five years journey-level commercial or industrial masonry experience. • Demonstrated ability to produce quality work from project drawings, specifications, construction standards, and/or written-verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with building clients, co-workers, and supervisors in a team environment. • Experience working in a large university, commercial, or industrial physical plant.
